Recovery..... do you really need someone the first few weeks?
I had no help and recovered nicely. I didn't need any assistance.
-
How long until you went back to work?
I went back after 7 days. It was not a problem.

Anyone want to be fat again?
The surgery isn't about vanity; it is about health. Maybe you had the wrong expectations going into the surgery.

WLS has made me a judgemental jerk!
I, too, am bipolar 1. I have had meanness issues in the past now controlled by medication. I heartily suggest that you get a med check as soon as possible. Remember your levels do change after surgery.

Polish and nails
I was told to lighten my shade of gel polish which I did. There was no problem with my nails being painted a light shade.

Gastric Bypass Cook Books
Isn't gastric-bypass cookbook and oxymoron?

Roomie
I had a huge single room right outside of the nurse's station. The nurses kept bobbing their heads in to tell me to "walk," "sip," and "breathe." I got very personal care.

Very Pre-Op and Exercise
One hour of exercise a day is pretty tough for ANYONE to do. Your doctor is very strict. I, personally, would find another doctor. Not that I am looking for an easy way out, but come on! An hour a day!!!!

different surgeon=different results?
I ignore people like that and do not even consider their opinions. I have had some people tell me that my hospital choice is no good. Park Plaza has its own bariatric wing where the nurses and other staff are trained in bariatric. So I continue to ignore the riff-raff.

The world's reaction
I was on a cruise once and was in the elevator eating an ice cream cone. When I got off ---- before the doors closed ---- someone said, "That's the last person who should be eating ice cream." I will never forget that incident! I was mortified.

People over 60 and gastric bypass
Dear kedwards1950, I was born in 1950 also and am having a bypass this Friday. My doctor never even mentioned my age. I, like you, am just under 300 pounds. I look forward to the surgery and the upcoming results. My age never occurred to me although I have heard that some doctors will not do a bypass on those over 60. They will do the sleeve, however. I was lucky enough to find the best surgeon in the world.
