That's weird

Recommended Posts

I was just over at OH and learned that if you start a thread, you can have the mods remove any post that you want removed, even if there weren't any rules broken. That makes no sense to me. The whole point of a message board is to get multiple points of view on topics. If you want to hear only your own point of view, why join?

So I just want to thank the guys that run this place for being great moderators. You guys make sure that the peace is kept without going too far and squashing any opinions. You only close threads that are obviously beyond hope of redemption and you don't delete posts just because someone else doesn't like them. So, kudos to you! :clap2::biggrin1:

That does seem an odd rule if there's any pretense at all to being an open forum. We inadvertently used to allow a similar thing, by letting people delete their own posts. That's fine in principle, but if they delete their own thread-starting posts, they end up deleting the entire thread. And that's not fair to everyone else who posts in a thread. That's why here people can only delete their OWN posts, not entire threads.

Apparently, you can only be a contributing member of OH if you always agree with everyone else and never post anything that can be taken even remotely offensively. To me, it totally defies the whole point of a message board. Don't like a certain person? Have all replies that they've made to your threads or posts deleted. Someone disagreed with you? Have their post deleted.

The whole thing is stupid. To top it off, apparently lots of folks there are 5th graders in disguise. They are always screaming, "You're attacking me!!!" whenever someone slightly disagrees with them. Heck, they yell that even when people DO agree with them and try to offer suggestions. "You're calling me a bad mother!!!" was a thread-starter's response when someone said that she needs to stop giving her runaway daughter privileges.

I go over there every so often, and then I always get so pissed at the childishness that is so common there. I just come running back over here, where it's sane.

Yeah, I am on a cat forum, and the debate/heated thread, there was a lot of controversy about mods pulling posts. Initially anything 'offensive' was removed, until they sorted out and realized mods shouldn't step in like that. It's a forum for everyone's opinions, etc.. and I don't like mods that try to regulate and make things one sided. I am new to the off-topic debates on this forum, so good to know they don't step in ;)

The OH forum sounds very, very boring. Life is more interesting when there is a variety of view points.

How does something become offensive on a cat forum?

It's too easy, I just can't do it. :censored:

laurend- because like here, they have a section off --A forum for (non-cat related) mature discussions, issues that may be sensitive and spirited debates. Topics may include subjects such as politics, religion and current events. If you are easily offended, please be advised.

----

And so far, there's been a lot of discussion about republicans vs. democrats, global warming, etc.

Lauran...

In the case of OH I support their decision to do this.

Remember SandyR? The PITA lady? She follows people around and nags them, insults them, she does more for LBT than any other single person because of the sheer number of people she drives away from OH and to LBT.

Since OH won't do what other forums do and kick her butt out of there they have to give members some sort of ability to deal with her (and her coven).

A member need only request another member not post in their threads or directly to that member again. If the other member continues doing that then the post can be removed. It's the only way to keep the PITAs in check since OH doesn't do their jobs as mods.

I really hate that forum, there is nothing I like about it. The format sucks, the people are essentially made up of newbies that don't know better or the old-timers are folks that were kicked out of every other forum. It's just a horrible place to read posts. If there is a topic that is even slightly political, it's deleted. If there is the least bit of debate, it's history. However brow beating, nagging, insulting, slamming... with those you are good to go.

Everything there is designed to be all sweetness and light from a bunch of nasty, bitter, creepy, throw aways from other forums. IOW, it plain doesn't work.

I come to both sites, for motivation more than support. Plus if I can answer a question for a newbie (here or there!) I am happy to do so.....I dont consider myself a "nasty, bitter, creepy, throw away" though, lol. Any site will have some people that stir that pot, or are controversial, or whatever. I take what I need and ignore the rest.

Yeah, but remember, debates about cats in heat can be very controversial.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
