I'm not going to just tell everyone, but I'm also not going to hide it either. It's really none of their business, unless I make it their business..which is not likely haha

So here is my big dilemma. I am super embarrassed that I have not been able to lose the weight on my own. I truly feel like the biggest failure. I've decided to do bypass and confident in my decision, however I'm not sure what I'll say to those who ask about the weight loss? I've been very private and don't want anyone to know I'm doing the surgery for fear of condescending opinions I guess. I don't know. Anyone else dealing with this?

I'm kinda lucky here. I live 4 hours from my family and only get to see them about every 5-6 weeks. My husband and my children (who do not live with me) are the only ones I have told. I know there will be questions in the future, so I have told the rest of my family that I am seeing a "Nutritionist" and learning how to eat healthy. Why should I tell them that I had surgery, when the weight loss with truly come from the nutrition side anyway. I think it should be an individual decision, though.

I am an open book. I have told everybody that I am having surgery. I even posted it on Facebook!

I received word a week ago that I was pre-approved by insurance for surgery. Now starts a six month medically supervised weight loss program before surgery can happen... I have told seven (7) people and I feel like that is too many. Those not included? My mom and sister who I tell EVERYTHING to. They are both die hard Weight Watcher people and they think that is what I should be doing. Well I've tried WW several times and it just doesn't work for me. And frankly, I'm done doing what others feel is best for me, it's time to do what I BELIEVE IS RIGHT FOR ME. Simple as that. So I say, tell who you must. It's your choice to either shout out from the rooftops or keep it as your own little secret. Either way you're getting healthy and happy :-)

I tell people the truth for the most part.. I'm 60 years old and if there is someone that will say something ridiculous to me concerning my health, I know it already and don't need to deal with them.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
