No drop in weight. I had my 2 week post-op yesterday and my surg actually cleared me straight to eating solid food! I was shocked. I'm going to keep up my Protein shakes and I will plan to introduce solid foods everyday into my diet. Protein shake for Breakfast and something meaty for dinner. I tend to skip the middle meal. I think I will try some chicken breast tonight. They seemed really pleased with my progress, the surg even commented that I don't even seem like I had surgery at all. I'm a very upbeat person around people and I think that helped. So yay! :)Real food.

I was also given pictures from my surgery showing the before and after of my stomach, it is sooooooo much smaller it was unreal, and I had a tiny hernia that was fixed as well.

Ok kids, it is officially day 15, I am halfway through my blogging journey and I am still 15 pounds down, no change yet but I know a big drop is coming, I can feel it! if I average it out to 1 lb per day, that is absolutely fantastic considering I would fight for 1 lb per week before.

Yesterday and the day before I noticed both mornings I started my day off with a serious case of bubbly tummy. I could feel things moving I was burping a few times and etc. I think these things were happening before I was just asleep during it. Today I took a gas pill because it wasn't a pleasent feeling and so far so good. Things are shifting still but no burping yet. I think I'm just feeling my tiny tummy digest and it's weird.

On a new note I had my first solid food dinner last night. It was a couple ounces of chicken breast, with some cheddar cheese and avocado. I honestly thought it was a lot of food, I paced myself and took about 45 minutes to eat it, and I was still feeling a hunger pang randomly (yes unfortunately my hunger feeling didn't go away completely). So I sat there for another 30 minutes waiting and then had some unsweetened applesauce, about an ounce or two and then a sip of a naked probiotic smoothie and finally I felt satisfied, almost a small restriction which I was looking for to test my limit and now I am curious. I feel like I ate a lot, I mean it was a drop in the ocean compared to what I normally would have eaten but still...Is this normal for anyone? Maybe I just healed super well and am getting to skip all the swelling and can eat up to 8oz...I don't know. It was weird...Can anyone make me feel less worried here!?

Also thanks for reading for so long. :)

Hi! Good morning! Congrats of the weight loss. That's awesome! I was able to drink 4oz the day after surgery and thought it was strange and now (2wks 2days post surgery) I can consume 8oz too. At least it will feel like I'm really eating once I get to solid foods. Love your updates. Thanks for sharing with all of us.

The scale moved!! But in the wrong direction, :o. I'm up to 260.6, wah wah. Last night I for dinner I had 1 oz of tuna with a little mayo and sweet relish and 2 bacon ritz crackers and some unsweetened applesauce for dessert. The whole meal took me about 2 hours to eat. Took my measurements as well and there has been no inches lost. Booo for todays post. A big drop is coming right?

UGH! The scale moved again in the wrong direction, I'm 261.8. This is sucky. I went to a party last night and there were 2 gorgeous cakes and a cheese dip with chips that I normally love. I didn't eat any of it so that is cool. I took a Protein bar and ate that to get my extra Protein. One of these days I will look at the scale and be excited. Boo. For those keeping track that is no downward change for 5 days.

Well, back down to 260.6. Nothing exciting happened. Eating solid foods, having no issues, and still drinking at least 1 Protein Shake a day. I also just started Vitamins, gummies. I take a Multivitamin (gummy), probiotic (gummy), krill oil, Biotin, and another probiotic capsule that I empty into my Protein shake. No issues with them either. I think I have had the most textbook recovery of anyone in the entire planet. :) It's the weight loss that is pretty rough. Oh well. Patience is a virtue.

Misty,

What's your daily Protein intake?

Also, are you recording / journaling your food / Water / exercise?

Ann,

My protein right now is about 60g per day. I just started journaling in MyFitnessPal yesterday. I was giving myself a break to get use to it all. I walk, but I don't track it. I don't track my water either. I just know I have two 32 oz containers and I need to drink them everyday. I feel way better about water now than I did a week ago, that is for sure! Thanks for reading loyally!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
