What does being stuck feel like?

Recommended Posts

I know it sounds like a stupid question. But I'm not sure if I've been stuck or not? Could anyone please explain what it felt like to them? This whole thing is so confusing to me I don't know what I'm meant to expect haha thankyou! X

Can you get liquids down?

Are you sliming?

Feels like a heart attack to me. Because my esophagus starts to spasm, my chest hurts. But I can tell it's not my heart that hurts. Sometimes I will feel pain up to my throat. Also, lots of saliva like you are going to throw up. Your body naturally tries to "fix" the block, so it creates more saliva and the esophagus starts to contract in order to push the food down. (The body doesn't realize that it is stuck in the band.).

The best feeling in the world (well, almost), is when you can feel the food "pop" and go down. Talk about relief!

It would be wonderful if you never had to feel it. It's horrible. Eat slow, chew well and give yourself time between bites. You'll know it when it happens.

You'll know. It happened to me twice. Both times with pork chops. Goodbye pork chops. Miserable pain, tons of phlegm, no relief until I gently spit it up. Ugh.

I get a pain in my solar plexus and there's no mistaking what it is. Or why -- for me the why is eating too fast, not listening in to my body. I haven't been stuck in a long time but I had several episodes. Some had to do with rubbery foods. My band doesn't like that. I got too hungry once and had leftover fish right out if the fridge. And another time I got stuck on cooked cold mushrooms. I've had to learn what's right for me.

It feels like someone is jamming a 1"metal

pole right in the middle of your chest. (which I guess is ridiculous to say because I've never actually had that happen) It's a crazy combo of pain and that awful feeling you have right before you throw up.

Chew! And more importantly (at least for me) wait 60 seconds to take another bite.

I got the free app called eating slower. I set it for 1 minute and 20 seconds. I chew for 20 seconds, swallow, and then have 1 minute to wait before the timer dings.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
