I am 4 weeks post op just found I have developed a gallstone. Has anyone else had problems with there gallbladder post op?

What were your symptoms?

Honestly I really didn't have any symptoms. I had went to my pcp for lab work cause I was just tired. Upon getting my labs back my liver function was bad. So she called my surgeon and I went for an ultrasound that same day and they discovered I had a large gallstone that had formed postoperative

This is why I am concidering asking my surgeon to just take it out during the operation. Have you had gallstones in the past?

I have had no history of them. They only thing I have a history of was hypertension. I was private pay here in the states cause my insurance would not cover my surgery luckily they will cover the gallstones.

Gallstones are very common with rapid weight loss. I think the stat is 30% of WLS patients develop gallstones. I also have a family history, so I gave no doubt I'll need mine removed. But I'm not sure how long they take to form - 4 weeks seems pretty fast. You may have had the stone before but just didn't know it. Did you have bloodwork preop and was it normal? Even though bloodwork is not a good diagnostic tool for gall bladder issues....I had an extremely painful gall bladder attack a couple weeks ago and my bloodwork was perfect. But if the stones are causing any sort of bile duct blockage, your liver enzymes will go up temporarily.

I did have Preop lab work which was all normal and a Preop ultrasound which showed nothing at the time

Are there preventative measures one can take to lower the risk of gallbladder problems. I'm scheduled for Aug 25th and I HATE pain and surgery...so I would like to avoid it problems if

Wow. Guess they can form fast!

Shellief...some doctors put their patients on meds like ursodial postop to help prevent stones. But my PCP feels they don't really help. I read a post on here about someone who was on meds and still got stones. I've also read that some surgeons will take your gallbladder out when they sleeve you. You should talk to your doctor about it.

Team and also do some research (love me some science!) nothing is ever 100% so I can imagine still getting them even with meds. Best to you and so happy to see you on BP and doing so well :-). Shellie

I was sleeved in June last year, and I started experiencing symptoms almost right away, I didn't know what it was and waited almost a year until I for an attack and had to go to the ER ended up having emergency surgery. I'm doing better since my surgery I may, no more pain or heartburn. Keep an eye on it and listen to your body, don't do what I did. Good luck
