Band to sleeve, same op, August 12th !

Recommended Posts

Would love to know how everyone's surgery went, any complications. I'm hoping for surgery on 25/26 aug band to sleeve. Frightened but excited. Having it done in Mexico. Will be very happy to see the last of this band.

I am now 8 weeks out and no complications. Mine was pretty easy biggest surprise was how long if took to get my energy fully back, about 2 weeks. This week I'm back to eating normal foods and boy so nice to keep it down and no acid reflux issues. I'm so glad I finally did it. My surgery was about an hour long, a little scar tissue but my dr was able to remove it all. My port was embedded so took a bit to get it out (I knew something was up as I always had pain in the port area shortly after getting my band but was told its normal). I stayed 2 nights in the hospital.

I am having a band removal, hernia repair, and gastric sleeve on August 5th. Planning on one surgery - but I guess I won't know until I wake up! Good luck to you!

Update - I had my revision surgery on Tuesday. Had band removed (doc said it was a booger to get out - had for 11 years), hiatial hernia repair, and gastric sleeve all in one surgery and I went home the SAME DAY! Feeling great, no pain meds as of last night.

I too am going from the band to sleeve on August 12th. I did great with the band for the 1st 5 years but after having kidney stones, it all went down hill. It started with nausea and vomiting. Nonstop. Even when the kidney stones were done, the other problems continued and I developed really bad reflux. All of my saline was removed in 2010 but I still have restriction. At times I can't eat. Weird.

I'm really excited but also very nervous about this new chapter in my life. So many thoughts going through my head but I'm sticking to the plan. Wish me luck and I hope all goes well for you! Healthy regards. :)

Yay ! Just had my band removed and got sleeved, same op, out of theatre now and up on the ward sucking on my ice chips. I have to say I feel fine ! Pain is minimal at around 0 to 1 out of 10. Let's see what tomorrow brings :-)

Just got band to sleeve revision 8/12/14. I lost 100 lbs with the band since it's insertion in 2005. Last year, it got so tight my reflux was crazy and I had a humongous esophagus. I have been up filled either partially or fully for a year and I gained 25 lbs. My starting weight was 248, lowest weight 141. I went into surgery weighing 170. I am five days out and in crazy pain...but not hungry at all!

Mine was difficult to get out too...what was supposed to be a 1.5 hour surgery was 3.5 hours long...surgeon said there was a lot of scar tissue. With the band I was up and moving within 2 days, back at work in 5 days. I an five days out now and will be working part-time starting tomorrow...but not sure if I will be able to do it.

I really want to pull out and cancel the op, it's just pre-op nerves, I cancelled my band op twice as well ! Damn nerves !!! I'm just worried about a leak and bad reflux. That is all :-)

How did it go? I'm scheduled for September 19th and I am super nervous. I'm trying not to think of having my last meal crap. I just want to believe that I can eat, just in a different way. Please share your experience thus far?

Hey there, all went unbelievably well ! No pain / gas / discomfort post op. Lost 20lb so far. Haven't felt hungry once. Off on my holidays today, in the airport as we speak, don't physically even feel like I've been through what I've been through ! So far it's the best thing I've ever done :-)

great to hear. I'm 9 weeks out and still don't get that hungry feeling. Sometimes I need to force myself to eat as I'm just not hungry.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
