Surgery Date Aug. 4 - Day 1 of liquid diet!

Recommended Posts

Hi - I'm a newbie. My name is Shelly and I'm 54. After starting this journey back in March, 17 Dr. appointments and tests later I finally have my surgery date of Aug. 4, 2014.

Today is my first day of the liquid diet. So far it hasn't been bad at all. Daily, I have - 4 protien shakes, 3 flber supplement drinks, 3 servings of dairy either skim milk or light yogurt and 1 cup of raw veggies. I have can have sugar free popcicles and broth if I want. Total liquids have to be at least 100 oz or more per day. Luckly for me the shakes take care of 32 oz and the Fiber drinks are 24 oz. The rest I can make up with Water or broth. I have to be on this liquid diet 3 weeks pre-op and the week of the surgery.

I can't say I'm not nervous and a little scared. I have been reading everyone's post on here and they have been very helpful seeing that I am not alone on this journey. Thanks for posting. :)

Congratulations Shelley.

I am on my 7th day of the "diet", my surgery is July 21st.

My first day I thought was pretty good, however.....

The second, third and fourth day were miserable FOR ME.

I woke up with a three day headache that gradually went away.

My surgeon said my body was detoxing. I believe that to be true.

I am now SICK of the Protein shakes, I am at the point where I gag when I drink them. I find that if I add instant coffee (about 1-2 tbsp) in it, I can tolerate it. I was extremely emotional and yes I actually cried over never being able to have a Whopper again! IT DOES GET BETTER. I am feeling much better. The sight of food doesn't bother me (family are, as I write this eating steak and onions). It smells FABULOUS, but my health means so much more and now I am over the hump! I KNOW I can do this!

Good luck to you - use this site ..it has been very helpful for me.

See you on the losers bench!

Thanks for the idea Dawn. I actually like the drinks so far. I haven't added any flavoring to them yet. I chose Isopure zero carb for my Protein drinks.Well today is day 2 and not too bad thank goodness. I'm a little off my "Feeding/Drinking" schedule and it's hard to get all the fluids down for some reason. Maybe I'm just tired today. I started my liquid diet 2 days early because of adjusting my diabetes meds and I was afraid of low sugars. But not the case. I added up my calories today it comes to 800 per day. I would hope to lose 20-23 pounds by my surgery date. I'm just taking it one day at a time.

See you on the Losers Bench!

I haven't added up my calories yet. I should though.

I have to loose 15 lbs by surgery day (21st). IF my scale is correct I am down 12 lbs. I am not sure . A new scale has been ordered and should be here tomorrow...Lord I hope it's correct!

I find that it is hard to get all my liquids in, I try adding lemon or lime juice to my Water and sf ice tea, to change things up. It helps a little.

Good luck all!

I started mine on Wednesday. Mine consists of 4 shakes and 1 lettuce salad if I need it. I'm behind on Protein today but I'll catch-up. :)

Im different or the diet is different for me. I start tomorrow to detox my liver (fatty liver). All the Protein I want regardless of calories and no more than 20 grams of carbs. I have diabetes so I am sure I will be feeling great without the carbs. My surgery date is set for July 28th. I have been waiting for a year to have this done. (A whole YeaR). I am excited to be feeling better, although I am not looking forward to the surgical pain after. I had a ventral hernia repaired last July as an out patient. It was horrible because of the pain. I went to the doctor for an elevated temp 3 days later and I expressed the pain I had endured and he said we have been doing those as an in patient lately.. (ya now he tells me.) This time is the bypass surgery and a hiatal hernia repair. I know things will be different this time because I will be in the hospital 2 nights and 3 days before discharge. One night will probably be in ICU because I have sleep apnea. Through it all I will stand strong and only good things will come with getting a chance to regain my health. Thumbs up for excitement. !!!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
