I feel like crying......weight loss before preop diet?!

Recommended Posts

I am almost finished my 6 month supervised diet, I have one more class left. I have since lost weight but apparently, it isn't enough. As I'm sure we all know, it's extremely hard to do. I have to lose 1lb in 4 days in order to get my last visit with my surgeon. How much did you lose during your 6 months? I feel horrible right now.. :-(

You can lose a pound by sitting in a sauna for an hour. If this is that important to you, Google.."weight cutting techniques". Wrestlers regularly cut 10-20 pounds a few hours or a day before weigh-in. I keep going back to read your post to make sure I'm seeing it as a loss of one pound (if I'm reading it wrong- I'm sorry!). If you only need to lose a pound, stop drinking Water the day before your weigh-in, go for a run, and don't eat anything for the next day. If absolutely neccessary, submerge yourself in a hot bathtub 20 minutes in, 20 minutes out, until you hit your goal. As soon as you have weighed in, start rehydrating.

Obviously this is not something to do on a regular basis, but if you are this close to being able to have surgery, a little weight cutting will not hurt you. :) Best of luck!

I technically didn't have to lose any weight during the 6 month supervised diet, just had to make the doctors apoitments. The only requirement was the last 2 weeks prior to surgery. The surgeon gave me 2 weeks to lose 10lbs which was pretty easy on the pre op mostly liquid diet

Under the circumstances.......

1. Do not consume anything with salt.

2. Drink nothing but Water. No juice. No shakes.< /p>

3. Drink Magnesium Citrate.

4. Take a very long walk...... My bad. Do the long walk BEFORE the Mag. Citrate ????????.

5. Do not wear heavy clothes (ie. jeans) or shoes to your weigh-in. Cotton & flip flops that you can kick off.

6. Good luck. You'll easily meet your goal.

1lb in 4 days is doable. Drink lots of Water, cut out all carbs, no salt. You can do this! Everyone loses on the pre op diet I think. I can only have 900 calories a day but I think I am just going to do eggs for Breakfast, veggies and some meat for lunch and dinner.

I didn't have to lose any weight just couldn't gain a pound. I asked if it is gain a pound ever or just from the first weight at the doctors. They said it was from the first weight at the doctors. Still a little stressed on getting approved because I gained 3-4lbs my last weigh in.

I feel the same way! I was 276 during my initial consult. That was when I was working out 3 hours a day six days a week. Over the six months I gained about 20 pounds mostly in the winter. I've been trying really hard to lose the weight .... I am now 280 and I have until july 21st to be 260.

i feel like ripping my hair out... but as far as the weigh in do as the other people told you. EAT NO SALT the days leading up to your weigh in, it'll cause you to retain Water. Drink a lot of Water with lemon so you can detox but the day of the weigh in fast. dont eat/drink anything. Also pee first. Water can easily weigh 1 pound.

I'm also gonna try my best here to lose these 20 pounds, so you stay strong. More than impressing our surgeons, I think we need to prove to ourselves that we're emotionally ready to have this surgery.

I haven't needed to lose any weight on my supervised diet but I need to be 10 lbs less on surgery day than I was at consult. My last appt. is August 27 and I will actually need to lose 16lbs. It is helpful yo read everyone's suggestions, thanks

1 pound is super easy to lose preop. I lost 22 pounds in 16 days......3 Protein shakes/day + unlimited green veggies and Water. Do that for 3 days and then limit your water the last day before "weigh in".

Chia seeds help "clean out" your intestinal tract. A couple tablespoons a day ends up being really productive, I honk you should only do maybe a couple teaspoons if you haven't been eating them already. Magnesium citrate is the old weigh-in trick; it's a laxative that works quite well. These are both tricks, but do work in a pinch. Obviously diet and exercise is best, but I'd hate for 1 lb to hold you back.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
