Sick to my Stomach.. Normal?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on July 9th and came home July 10th.. All day on the 10th every time I drank Water I would throw up and have dry heaves.. It feels like the Water weighs a ton.. I'm having a lot of pain in my chest, I suppose that's gas...

Has anyone else experienced this?.. How long will it last? Thanks!

I could not drink plain Water for a long time. It occasionally makes me nauseous to this day and I am almost 6months out. Warm herbal tea and crystal light were/are my go to drinks. This is normal. It will get better.

Warm chamomile tea will sit better and be soothing to your tummy ????

Make sure you're walking around to relieve the gas. I wore a path in my living room until i felt good enough to go outside.

You may also want to ask surgeon for anti nausea meds

I had my surgery July 1st and water does still make me pretty nauseous. Not as bad as before though. Diet snapple and light cranberry did wonders for me in keeping me hydrated. Gas pain is still an issue for me. Just keep active and it should alleviate the pain.

I had my surgery on the 9th too! Surgery twins! Water and I don't get along either... It hurts. I don't have the nausea with it though, but it is pretty painful. I have much better luck with frozen juice, but I know cold isn't tolerable for some. Not only that, it gives you something to chew on if you have the desire to eat. If the nausea and vomiting continue, I'd go back to the doctor. That's what they told me to do, honestly, because they don't want that happening. Are you experiencing joint and muscle pain? Ooh, that is something I'm struggling with. Everything hurts, my back, my arms, my thighs. Makes it hard to move around. I wish you luck in your journey,, and I hope you start feeling better soon.

I just got my sleeve done on Wednesday the 9th. Technically I'm considered two days post-op. I'm having some pretty sharp gas pains even when I do the gas-x strips. Almost Every time I drink some Water I burp. Plus I'm also having body aches. My incisions are slightly sore but it's mainly the one that had the drain and my biggest incision? Hope all these are normal. Didn't realize how wonderful dilaudid was until I'm taking a lortab elixir.

Nausea from Water is very common. I have read that it has something to do with the surface density of plain water. I was told warm or room temperature water is better. Also add lemon research another flavoring can help. I find I can't drink the same thing over and over like the huge glasses of ice water I used to chug pre-op.

My Dr. just called in some nausea strips for me.. I sure hope it helps.. I did take all your advice on Crystal Light and I have been sipping on it all morning.. It's actually staying down.. I keep getting horrible gas in my chest.. I started using the Airlife plastic thingy they sent home with me to breath in and it helps a lot... It's so nice to hear what people are going thru, it seems to all be the same thing..

I was beginning to think something was wrong.. I did lose 15 pounds on my pre-op diet which really shocked me.. I didn't think I lost anything.. I still don't feel hungry.. Do any of you feel hungry?

I wonder if we are sore from laying on the OR table so long.. They had my arms stretched to the side of me.. hen 1 whole day I laid on my back in bed..My Dr. called in some nausea strips.. Some one on here said they use Gas X strips for the gas.. hmmm.I starting drinking Crystal Light.. It's staying down so much better than Water.. Hope your journey is smooth!.. Take Care!

I can't drink Water still.. I had the sleeve on July 9th.. I'm still having gas pains.. Lots of burping and seems to linger in my chest. But I have to say today is my best day.. Greek Yogurt is going down good.. My 1 week post op is tomorrow.. I'm still sore, especially in my left side..

I'm looking forward to eating healthy and finding all the new great Bariatric recipes out there!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
