Need AUGUST bypass buddies!

Everything I have read and seen on here has lead me to believe that I shouldnt spend money on shakes either because of the taste buds. Believe me - I am an investigative person in my professional life - so I am darn sure putting in the work to learn as much about this as I can. Sometimes think I am learning too much and getting info overload! Thanks for the sugesstions on the choc/vanilla and gas x. I plan on making a surgery bag based on all the suggestions I have read on here. Chap stick is another thing that I know to take based on my own surgery history. I will definately get me some of the mouth spray! I remember from other surgeries how thirsty I was - and to know they wont let me have anything for a while - great suggesstion!

Your welcome! I forgot to give you guys this link..

http://www.vitalady.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?search=action&keywords=protsamp&SortKey=sku&SortOrder=ascending

Vitalady sells Protein powder and Vitamins aimed at bariatric patients and on that link she sells samples of TONS of awesome Protein for $2.99 each with $5 shipping. If you aren't sure what to try, I'd pick a few flavors and try them AFTER you have surgery, it's way cheaper and easier than ordering a whole bunch of stuff then not liking it and sending it back. I have 8 new samples to try out after surgery and I'm excited to have some variety. Also, if you are having trouble deciding what on the list you want to try, you can go to this link and some people have rated protein powders..just remember that's their opinion and you may not love everything on the list.

The date is set...Aug 12th! Its been 7 months since my first appt...and here I am, scared, nervous and so excited. I'll be having hernia repair, bypass and gallbladder taken out in one shot. Anyone who had anything similar to those procedures, I'm super interested to hear of your recovery and how long before returning to work (though I realize everyone is different). I would love to buddy up with someone!

How old are all you ladies? I'm 21 and am scheduled on August 1st for a revision from a sleeve to a bypass. I had a sleeve in 2012, when I woke up I had a stricture and that began the long journey that has gotten me here. They dilated through endoscopy's a dozen times, I've been hospitalized, on and off Lortab since 2012 and the big kicker..I haven't eaten solid food since going into surgery in 2012! Now, the reflux is so bad that my esophagus is eroding around the stricture and we are talking about the risk of esophageal cancer if I don't get this taken care of. Also, it's getting worse very quickly! So, I'm all set for a revision on the 1st and I'm very hopeful that this will fix my pain, I'm crossing my fingers! I feel like I've already had enough bad luck, maybe it's time for some good luck (knocking on wood). I'm a full time nursing student and have barely stayed afloat in school because of all the hospitalizations, the narcotics, Protein and Vitamin deficiency causing zero energy, and then just the overall pain and how it affects your mind and body. I'm SO ready to start healing!

I have a lot of support from my wonderful fiance, my mom who as always been my best friend and biggest cheerleader, and my soon to be mother-in-law plus the many prayers I get from all of you guys. If you have any Vitamin or Protein questions feel free to let me know, I've been there done that.

I have my own thread that posts my long journey from sleeve to bypass but I'll keep you August bypassers updated here too. I'm praying for smooth recovery for all of you and I'm especially praying for a bypass for you @@Roostertail2 because the GERD will get significantly worse if you get a sleeve, I know very well from personal experience.

Oh and as far as pre-op diet, my surgeon likes 3 days all Clear liquids so that's what I'll do at the end of July for him.

I am 33. So sorry to hear about the problems you are having to ensure. I pray that the revision is a real success for you.

I talked with a lady yesterday about her surgery and she said there was a pill out there that will help with the smell of the gas and the poop. I'm going for my pre op today and will ask my Dr if it is safe for us to have and will get back with you ladies on weekday he says. If you want to research it yourselves, the name of it is Devrom.< /p>

As my Aug. 8th date approaches....tomorrow I start my 3wk pre surgery diet. 3 to 4 shakes a day and a small salad with small amount of chicken or fish. Reality set in that this is going to happen. I feel the same way as most of you. Happy...excited...nervous... I too am having hernia repair...I don't want to wish the summer away because its my favorite time of year but I really want to get this over with...LOL My thoughts and prayers are with all of you as I know we will all be feeling so much better come September. Have a great day to all !!

Audry'grandma - I also have an issue with wanting to eat more. I have a major sweet tooth and have been stuffing my face with cupcakes for fear of never getting to have them again! lol. Problem with that is we are only going backwards by gaining extra weight. On top of that I am trying to quit smoking or my surgeon wont touch me - so that also makes me want to eat more!!

So since all of us want buddies - anyone interested in creating new group where we can keep in contact? I also have Facebook page - but have not told everyone so didnt want to have posts on there...

BTW - my name is Ruth and I am in Atlanta GA...46 years old

Ok so creating a forum didnt really work..So I created a chat room called August Surgeries. Because I dont know what surgery my doctor will end up doing until he gets in there - I dont want to have to choose what forum I need to be in - I need input from both gastric bypass and sleevers! So if anyone interested in going through all of this with me - thats a place we can talk.

My date was set today! August 19th here. My pre-op testing is August 4th and mandatory classes on the 14th. I began considering weight loss surgery 10 years ago, as I have been morbidly obese since I was 8 years old.... Fast forward 20 years and I'm 28 and finally taking control of my body! And I couldn't be more excited/anxious!

I'm so excited for all the possibilities that come with getting happier and healthier. My fiancé and I will finally have our wedding (I haven't been able to face searching for a wedding dress knowing I'm not going to feel like a beautiful bride and I certainly don't want the pictures to remind me! Fall 2015 wedding here I come!) Also, babies! I want some to have/adopt children and be able to keep up with them (and not be the fat mommy at the park).

I simply want to feel like me! I feel like I'm trapped in a body that engulfs everything that I am! As far as I'm concerned, August 19th is my second shot at a happy life!

So very happy for you....I love the positivity!!!

My date is Aug 20! I'd love to follow with you. I am definitely not in your age bracket, I'm 64, but much will be the same!

I wasnt really on the fence. I did a LOT of research as I am sure everyone else has done. I went in wanting the sleeve. Didnt really like the idea of rerouting things. I had several abdominal surgeries in the past the last of which was bowels - so I didnt want mine messed with. BUT after getting back my uppger GI tests the doctor said I he wouldnt recommend the sleeve because I had acid reflux and it would more than likely get worse with the sleeve - so he wanted to do the bypass. BUT - I have a lot of scar tissue from the 4 other abdominal surgeries - so he doesnt really know if he will be able to do bypass. So it will actually be a surprise when I wake up...In the meantime I am having to reach out for info and support from both surgeries just so I am as informed as I can be on them both.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
