I'd be happy to share what I've learned over the past 18 months. You can send me questions via private message by hovering your mouse over "joatsaint" on the left and a menu will appear that has a "send message" button.

I've tried to keep everything as simple as possible from the beginning. If I get too caught up in all the details of buying special plates, utensils, supplements and what to eat, it just makes things a pain.

Just started this sleeve journey. VERY sore right now but I am walking and sticking to the fluids and Protein only diet for another 10 days. Looking forward to soft foods but really notice how much my life was wrapped up around food. Have to unlearn a lot of bad habits.

Agreed it seems you can eat carbs like normal so be careful on carbs. Walk a lot as it helps. Any issues with Protein?

I was sleeved July 1st. I'm on day 6 post op. I'd love someone around my date for support too!

This liquid diet sucks, I can't wait for purees, just looking forward to the chance to cook something other people can eat too and feel like a human again!

I've been ok with pain, only took one tylenol since dscharge. Then, yesterday my largest incision, on my left (over my stomach) began to hurt everytime I stood/walked. How have you been doing with pain?

I am having my sleeve done on July 21 and would love to share and help..

I would recommend that you get up and start walking as soon as you can. It really helps manage the pain. The deal with liquids is tough but doable. My doctor wanted 64 oz of Water and 60g of Protein. Make sure you are well stocked on Protein Shakes and protein options. I used the Unjury brand of products and when I tasted it for the first time I thought, "Hmmm. This isn't bad at all." After 8 days of chocolate and vanilla I can't stand the thought of drinking another one. What I'm getting at is have plenty of options available. Ask me any questions you might have and good luck.

I was sleeved July 28th the liquids are hard to swallow i burb then as the go down. I drink 30ml at a time. I've tried 15 ml it doesn't help. I'm the healthiest person on the floor so I'm not getting any attention lol the nurses here don't really know much about gastric sleeve I wish the nutritionist would have come by.

Good morning-

First of all it gets easier. I am now a month out. At first all you can get down is the tiniest swallow. Remember, your stomach is so small and the staples are going to need a lot of time to heal. I remember pouring a 30ml medicine cup of the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury shake and talking about an hour to get it down. Go slow.

Unfortunately you don't have nurses that know a lot about what you have gone through. You should be up an walking the halls for about 10 minutes every hour. It helps. Good lunk and go slow. This is a long process.

I was sleeved on July 22, 2014. I am doing really well except for this stabbing/ ripping pain at the largest incision site. It is actually below and over to the side a bit towards the belly button area. It hit me when I get up from sitting or lying down. It hurts so bad I cannot speak when it happens. Once I get my upper body straightened up the pain will subside. Also if I apply heat to the area it helps as well. This is the only thing that is bothering me....but it is excruciating! Anyone else go through that??

This type of pain is not uncommon. I felt it exactly as you described it but my pain was the same when I went to sit down too. It gets better. The single most painful thing that happened to me was when I sneezed. EXTREMELY painful.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
