Hey all!

I've seen in several different places that your tastes sometimes change after VSG. I was just wondering how everyone's tastes have changed? Anything you use to love but now can't stand or vice verse? What are some foods that just set your stomach off and you can't go near it?

My date to joined the sleeve community is 7/24/15.. yeah, over a year away but Im on my way! I just thought this would be an interesting topic :0)

I can't handle sweets any longer. I had a bite of a birthday cake..and when I say bite I mean a baby spoon bite. I had to spit it out. I couldn't take it. pudding is too sweet, I have't even tried chocolate and won't now, same with ice cream.

I'm very much OK with my new found aversion to sweets :)

I don't like sweets either anymore. Cake & brownies just gross me out.

I do however eat Greek yogurt & cottage cheese-- which I NEVER would have touched before.

I used to be a 4 cup per day coffee drinker. All of those cups were starbucks (k-cups) Sumatra coffee. I absolutely loved the stuff. I tasted the same coffee three days ago and didn't care for it all.

My taste hasnt changed, but my sense of smell is much better. This has affected my taste for lamb. The fat smells horrible.

I can't tolerate sweets as much anymore. Everything tastes overly sweet. I took a sip of Lipton Citrus Tea the other day and it tasted like beer. Nasty! This whole thing is a learning process.

I have to agree sweets aren't like they used to be. I don't crave them anymore and have no desire to eat them.

I'm only a week out so I haven't really tasted anything other than Water, Protein Shake, Decaf tea, Jello and broth to know the difference. I DID notice the crystal light peach ice tea is incredibly SWEETER than before.

I'd have to agree, most things are now too sweet for me (and I had a huge sweet tooth)

I also can not handle Ice cream anymore. It used to upset my stomach if I ate a whole bowl, now just a bite sends my stomach into fits.

as for new things, nothing really stands out as I haven't really tried anything new.

I used to think Greek yogurt was pretty vile. I eat a ton of the stuff now. Otherwise, I unfortunately still have my sweet tooth. :) Oh, the Protein powder I used to use pre-op ended up tasting thick and gross afterword. I haven't magically started liking cucumbers or anything post op.

That's crazy how your tastes changes like that.. especially the sweets. I've already laid off of kool aid but I couldn't imagine not enjoying my pralines n' cream ice cream or debbie cakes... but it would be for the best so it wouldn't be a total loss. I wonder what it is about the sweets afterwards though.

I haven't had any cravings for chocolate & I loved it in any form. I think this is a good thing. What I have developed is wanting salty foods. I'm 7 weeks post op so I have tried a lot of stuff. For example, crackers don't have enough salt on them. I'm careful about the amount of salt in/on my food since that's not a good thing either.

I used to take my coffee black, it doesn't appeal to me anymore. Brocolli doesn't agree with me, gives me uncontrollable acid. bread, rice, potatoes, Pasta I do not miss. Not at all. I still have a sweet tooth on occasion. I had a bite size reese's cup on my way to Zumba last night. Had a lil' sugar crash about 15 mins into class!

honestly nothing so far! i'm only 8 days out though...but i'm already eating yogurts, puddings, jellos, cream Soups, shakes.

the only thing i notice different is that after i have a Protein shake, i have a very sweet taste in my mouth for quite a while until i drink some Water. didn't have this pre-op.

i've done the finger dunk thing on many occasions when cooking for the family. yesterday i made Pasta and did the finger dunk into the sauce and taste it for seasoning. also licked my finger after moving bbq from a platter at a party last weekend. really this has been very subconscious but nothing seems different so far...i reported it to my nut but she wasn't too concerned thankfully!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
