Week 5: May 27-31st Sleevers

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone and welcome to week 5 of our sleeve journey! Thanks to @@lylabelle for admin'ing the group so far. Let's have our weigh in on Monday as usual and I will be glad to keep the new threads going for those of us who choose bariatricpal to keep in touch throughout our journey each Friday.

Seriously, we need to think of a group name. I nominate "Quarter Cup Club" and "Sleeveless in Seattle" and "Walk Forest Walk" anything other than may 27-31st sleevers :)

And personally, i'm going to hit 10k steps for the first time since surgery today. There was a fire alarm at my office so I thought, I'm gonna take a walk and came back an hour later haha!

Reminder: please direct requests for Facebook group access to @@lylabelle and @@Sh3iz in private message, not on the thread. Thanks!

Thanks for starting the thread. Did you add up last weeks losses from Monday weigh in? That's why I hadn't posted a new week yet. Lol

I'm in Gatlinburg Tennessee this weekend. Doing soft foods and chewing well. I'm considering upping my calories a few days to kick start things again. Is good to keep things guessing. Easy to do since we are at restaurants daily.

I think I found a trainer today! I heard about this gym through word of mouth, so I wrote an email asking for a consultation and got a call a little while later. In my email I was very open about everything, which the guy I spoke with (who runs the gym) said he really appreciated. Apparently, this place doesn't take everyone, only people who are really, really motivated. And he said to me that if having 85% of your stomach removed isn't motivation, then he doesn't know what is! He asked me so many questions about how I eat/ate, what my exercise and injury history is, about my family's medical history, just everything! Very thorough. He told me the gym offers several plans. I would go with the cheapest (159 Euro per month) which offers two semi-private training sessions a week in a small group (no more than 6) with other people who have similar goals. Most of the trainers are also physical therapists, which I really need. And he says their number one priority is avoiding injury (another major plus for me!). They also expect you to come work out at least two other days during the week in addition to the private or semi-private sessions, and he says if you don't, trainers will literally come find you! I also only live an 8 minute walk away, so I totally believe him! I'm going in on Monday to see the space and meet the team, and if it's a good fit, I'll sign a contract an get going right away! I'm so psyched! I just wanna get strong again!

Thanks for starting the thread. Did you add up last weeks liars from Monday weigh in? That's why I hadn't posted a new week yet. Lol I'm in Gatlinburg Tennessee this weekend. I'm sorry but why would you call us liars....? I'm slightly confused here. Did anyone else catch that? I'm not here to lie to anyone about my weight. I'm here for support and to learn from people through experience. And please don't single us out for putting an email on this thread. I think that draws more attention than anything else.

I've said my peace. Other than that, happy Friday!

Don't worry, I just assumed it was a typo. I'm certain lylabelle would have just dropped that in there on purpose.

Lol. Totally a typo!! Using phone. Gotta love auto correct.

@@mrsfitzpatrick I think she meant loss but autocorrect is brutal. Take it from a chronic texter.

I also wanted to apologize for making you uncomfortable and will do my best not to going forward. :)

@@WhoKnows YAYYY I've never heard of an exclusive gym but that sounds awesome! High level of accountability for sure.

Nsv Got a haircut today myself, not drastic but enough to force me to see my face and neckline has changed for the better.

AND @@lylabelle yeah no, I didn't do that. :o hope you have a good safe trip, and worse case we can add it all up next Monday too. Time flies too quick that's not far off!

I ran into an unexpected side effect. Our daughter,7, has lost 3lbs since my surgery but she and we are happy with that just unexpected. Anyone else seeing the family effect happening?

Hello, I was sleeved on 5/27/14. Things have been going really well. It seems that so far I hVe been able to handle everything I have introduced to my diet. I have tried steak and chicken and no problems. Since I have added more solid foods it seems I am not loosing weight. I don know of this is the dreaded stall everyone is talking about or what. This week I have gained 3 lbs. I am getting in just about all the Protein I am supposed to still not able to go over much of 500 calories and getting all my liquids in. Not to many carbs. I do need to up my exercise which is just walking for now. What could be the issues? My stats are

HW303

SW289

CW270

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Basically stay the course.. If you're doing enough Protein Water and any real measure of activity, you will lose it eventually. Stalls happen while your body is trying to catch up. Measure your inches lost for motivation not just pounds. I'm in the same boat.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
