Is this even possible?! Frustrated!

Recommended Posts

Soooo I'm 5 wks post-op tomorrow and 38lbs down. I'm not complaining at all about that. Heck I even skipped the infamous 3 wk stall! BUT....tonight, feeling good about the loss and myself, I decided to try on a smaller size jean. I was in a 22 the day of surgery so I thought surely I can get into a 20 now, right? Wrong!! I tried on 3 different 20's and can't fit a one! Definitely do not want to come off as vane or whiny, just very frustrated! Almost 40 lbs....am I only losing in my wrists and ankles?? I realize every body type is different, but curious has anyone else been thru this?

OMG I would share your frustration...but don't let it derail you...maybe you'll skip 20 altogether and go right to 18...how cool would that be? B)

did you take your measurements before surgery?

No, I didn't :( I need to buy a tape. Surely I've lost inches somewhere, just not where I'd like I guess.

I am one of those who lose from the top down. My face was first, then my boobs and arms, then my waist and belly started to go down slowly. Right now I have lost 10" around my belly, but it did take 40 pounds before I could even think about a smaller jean. Don't get discouraged....at some point the fat has to GO!

This may not apply to you, but for me I was wearing size 14 at the time of surgery, but I really should've been wearing a 16. So now that I've lost 20 pounds, my 14s are fitting me like they should've been, do you see where I'm going here?

Yea, I actually do. My 22's certainly didn't have much growing room! I've just always heard, read, and I guess believed that 7-10 lbs generally contitute a size. Boy, were they wrong!

Thank you Miss Mac, that's my fear I think, that it wont GO... That I will be in onederland one day and still have this HUGE midsection requiring a 22!

I was stuck in a size 20 for what seemed like forever...then all of a sudden it was 18 then 16 then 14..you get the drift! :)

Just keep swimming!

I've noticed I get what I call a "whoosh!" I lose pounds fairly consistently, but my body stays the pretty much the same until one day, Whoosh! ....I suddenly look smaller, go down a size, clothes suddenly baggy, people notice I'm losing weight etc. heck, I might have even gained a couple if ounces, but the Whoosh! Still happens!

I also agree with other posters....I could get the size 14's on thanks to the super stretchy material...but should I have been in a 16 or even 18??? Absolutely! Stretchy jeans can be the devil for those of us losing weight....they will last forever!

I had the same frustrations as you. I didn't really start losing sizes until I'd lost about 60 pounds, then not again until I hit almost 100 pounds gone. Because plus sizes are more amply sized than non-plus, it takes longer to shrink out of them.

Same boat. I have some size 20 jeans and pants and was hoping they would fall off after losing 30 pounds and 14 inches.....wrong. They actually fit comfortably with some wiggle. The waist no longer cuts off my circulation lol :-)

SO sorry you had that experience - Have to say that's pretty close to some of what has happened to me. I've lost a similar amount of weight, and yet pants size isn't moving--in my case I think it's because i'm losing in places that don't help you shift sizes. My hips and rear are smaller, but my waist hasn't changed that much, and pants depend on my waist to get buttoned! And of course now my pants look sorta comical being baggy-bottomed and getting longer (less roundness to hold them up!). Hang in there - you'll shift and realize the waistband itself is sitting low one day and realize you're now a size (or two!) smaller.

Thank you for everyone's input! That actually does give me a new perspective. Lol, I almost feel silly now. YES....they were stretchy. YES...I probably was hitting my maximum capacity in them (._.) But its good to know I'm not alone and that I will indeed put my 22's to rest soon.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
