Surgery was June 18 My thoughts

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on June 18. I had to have a pick line. My Dr recommends them. This was the best I did not have to worry about them finding a vein (I am always a hard stick). In recovery I found out that I had a hiatal hernia. This was fixed. I had gallbladder surgery back in 1972. There was a ton of scar tissue that had to be cleaned out. My stomach was stuck to everything, liver everything it touched. They did do a biopsy on the liver and have not heard about this yet.

I did not have gas in my shoulder so I am really lucky with that. (I think I would have had it by now if I was going to) I ended up staying 2 nights due to the pain. I did not realize that when Water hit my stomach it was going to feel like a fire poker. They order a Magic Mouthwash best thing ever. It has Benadryl, Maalox, and some numbing meds. once you swallow it numbs everything down to your stomach,. This allowed me to drink without the pain. I have not taken the pain meds for 2 days (More uncomfortable than anything)

The problem is I had no idea it would be so hard to get the Water in. I always drank lots of water. As for eating.. lol who would have ever thought I would have a hard time eating. It is like you are forcing yourself to eat and drink. I realize this will all get better in time. It has not been a week as of yet. One more thing, I did not realize how tired and weak I would be. I was going to take a drink during every commercial but I can not make it thru an hour show without falling asleep. I know it is just time. I am on liquids for another 2 weeks then to soft for 3 weeks the regular food. Come on I want to move past this phase.

Hi Peach!

I have that same hot, fire poker feeling in my stomach when I drink too. I had my follow up appointment today and surgeon thinks the pain is more from the haital hernia repair and not from the Gastric Sleeve. Do warm liquids help?

I'm with you on getting the liquids in... doc said today I was a bit dehydrated so I really have to up my intake too.

Sip, Sip, Sip!!

The other thing I wanted to let you all know. Do not weigh yourself when you get home from the hospital. I gained 9 lbs. They say it is due to the fluids while I was in the hospital. It was a bit shocking.

Yes I am still working on liquids. I see the dr on Fri for a follow up.

Please try to relax and go with the flow. The surgery is scary, we do not know what to expect, we are nervous wrecks thinking something might be wrong, and voila! You will be 7 months out before you know it, thanks to posting here and the gentle help and advice you will get. It will be okay. God Bless.

I had my surgery on June 18 also. I'm sorry you had so many extra issues! I didn't have the hernia. I had my gallbladder taken out during my surgery. I've been able to get liquids down fine - well, without any pain but I am feeling something like heartburn sometimes, so that slows me down. My biggest issue is the tired/weakness as well. I'm just completely exhausted!

I'm done with liquids on Friday then I move on to pureed foods Saturday for 3 weeks then soft foods for 4 weeks. Our docs are all so different with their protocols!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
