To weigh or not to weigh?

Recommended Posts

Did anyone not loose any weight on their pre op diet even tho they followed it to the T?

My band is scheduled for the 23rd and I've been on my diet since Saturday. I hate being a slave to the scale but 4 days later of veggies, plain oatmeal, yogurt, and Protein Drinks u would thnk I'd have lost some weight...even an ounce?

Def not gonna let this bring me down in anyway but was just curious.

If we could have lost weight dieting, we would have, right? But you will probably drop and surprise yourself. Main thing right now is just following instructions and getting ready for your surgery; you will do great!

I've seen that a few people haven't lost weight on preop diets even with only drinking shakes.

It's all about liver shrinkage, so any weight loss is a plus!

If you're really tempted maybe weigh yourself the day before or the morning of surgery to see the full picture (it's not that far)

Don't freak out. Remember, the purpose of the pre op diet is to shrink your liver so that it is safe for your surgeon to get in there and place your band. If you lose a few pounds, that is just gravy! *so to speak.* ;) Don't worry about pounds, just stick to your pre op plan so that your liver is nice and shrink-y dink-y and you have your band wen you wake up. :D

I only lost nine pounds on my pre op diet and I was on that sucker for three weeks. Three. Frakking. Weeks. And my surgeon was delighted with me, so yeah. Don't panic. You're going to be fine. :D

I didn't lose anything before the surgery. Did they tell you that you had to lose a certain amount?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
