What was uour system for getting in fluids the first week out?

Recommended Posts

I Know everyone is different but looking at my first full day home stats ( and the color of my pee) and I def failed at getting all my fluids in. So my question is, what worked for you? I'm thinking of setting a timer to remind me to drink- was thinking every 5 minutes. Did you have something like this that forced you to focus throughout the day? Any ideas are appreciated!

I rotate drinks. Sip of Water, than crystal light, then broth. Roaring these for me has helped me get the fields I need. I also use the crystal light to help cute the taste of the medication.

I measured and kept Water near me at all times, and just sipped, sipped, sipped.

I prepared chicken broth in 1-liter soda bottles for post-op. I also purchased a 2 oz. mini measuring cup and a pack of 1 oz. party shot glasses. I plan to set a timer, microwave the broth in the measuring cup, and drink it from the 1 oz shot glass or the measuring cup when 2 oz. are allowed. I plan to take my own broth to the hospital, since it is so much more nutritious and packed with Protein.

Hot passion tea sweeten with monk sugar (splenda product) this morning worked for me, I drank nearly 7 oz in a sitting. I read somewhere on here to drink hot lemon tea in the am since the stomach is more swollen overnight from saliva. Yesterday my tummy felt like a swollen mess with all my Protein shakes so might do a few more warm liquids today.

The only thing that worked for me was watching the clock on the cable box when I was watching TV. Every 5 minutes I took a little sip. Then after a few days I took a little sip after 3 minutes. Those little sips add up.

I tried timing it, then I discovered around day 3 or 4 that I could drink more than 1 oz of Water at a time. Being able to get down a good swallow or two at a time made all the difference for me. Protein is still more filling and takes longer to get down.

All of the above are great suggestions...

I kept my Water bottle with me all the time. I set a timer to chime every 5 minutes which reminded me to sip. I didn't get anywhere close to the minimum Water or Protein requirements for days, so don't stress it. Just do the best you can.

Also, I couldn't tolerate plain water after surgery - I switched to Propel Zero and Vitamin Water Zero (both zero calorie drinks) and that helped. I don't know why I don't like plain water after surgery - it's like drinking liquid sandpaper for some reason.

It makes me feel better knowing others didn't get to the minimums for a few days. I am concerned I will need to go back to the hospital and get fluids if I continue to not reach goals daily. I haven't gotten sick yet and learned I can take a whole shot glass worth of Fluid at one time. So that's nice, just need to know how long to weight till I take the next fluid shot! Can't wait till this is engrained in my head so I don't have to think about it all the time.

I frozen my water bottle with some line juice. I even froze Water with lime juice in Popsicle forms which helped getting water in.

I am 8 weeks out and I have not hit my Water goal once. Today I joined a gym and did cardio for 45 minutes. I was thirsty after and downed 8 oz of Water in 6 seconds. I figured I was in for a lot of pain but nothing happened. I know this is stupid, but I was so impressed I downed another 8oz 5 minutes later. No issues...

I am hopeful can finally hit my goal tonight.

My NUT had me drinking 4oz Protein Shake on the even hours and 4 oz Water on the odd hours all day long, 8am-11pm. It was easier to do when taken in small amounts

That is a good plan. I wish I had that for my first 2 week phase.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
