My name is Veronica. I was banded on April 6, 2004 by Dr. Ortiz.

I noticed that two-three weeks post op, I was REALLY hungry. Well, I finally got a fill in June. I had some restriction for another two-three weeks. I waited way loo long to decide to get another fill. Now, I have to wait longer to get a fill so that I could get a decent price on a plane ticket. So, I will be in TJ on October 16. My appetite is soaring and the scale is slowly starting to creap back up!!!! Should the second fill be better? Should the restriction last longer?

Hi Veronica

Hey I'm glad you made it to this site.

Veronica and I were banded the same day with Dr. Ortiz we have kept in touch over the months and I told her all about this site and how awesome and supportive and knowledgeable is here.

My 2nd fill helped alot. I felt it kick in quicker then the first one and it seems to be still giving me plenty of restriction. I do not plan on getting a fill anytime soon. I have been losing 1-3 lbs a week with this current fill and that is the perfect pace according to Dr. Ortiz. The 2nd fill should help you but be careful, do not get filled to much since you have to fly back and forth to TJ you do not want to get home and be too tight. He will probably have you eat something before you go back home on the plane he did this for Linda when her and I went in for a fill since she was hopping on a plane back to PA. He did not want her to be too tight once she got home. So we went and ate some lobster and waited 1/2 hour and it was all OK so we headed home

Veronica what is your daily intake of food look like? Are you doing the 60 grams of Proteins ? I ask becasue I know if I eat too many carbs my appetite is out of control for the day. I limit my carb intake plus the fact with this 2nd fill bread, rice & Pasta are no fun! But I do eat my wheat crackers with my dinner but I make sure I do not have ANY carbs for Breakfast otherwise I'm done..hungry all day long!

hang in there~

Hi Veronica

MY wife and I are being banded next monday. I agree that carbs increase your hunger. I have lost 85lbs on low carb and I always notice that I become much more hungry if I eat to many carbs. I still have a 100LBS to lose so I am hopeing lo carbs plus a reduction with the band on intake will do the trick. I also am wondering how to stay lo carb for the first several week.

The first several weeks is not about losing weight or dieting of any kind. I had 2 weeks of Clear Liquids, 1 weeks of full liquids 2 week of mushy and and then on to solids. I did not worry about any kind of carb intake or calorice intake until I was on solids. It was truly amazing for me how I was not hungry. I had so much gas discomfort and swelling from the band placement that hunger was not my issue.

Hi Veronica...

I just wanted to add another welcome to the forum and congratulations on being banded! I was very luck that my surgeon approaches fills according to the level of restriction one has at the time of the fill. My first fill was 2cc's... it took a couple of weeks after the fill to really feel the restiction but then it really kicked in! Hopefully your next fill will do the trick but don't get discouraged if you don't feel the restriction right away... it may sneak up on you later. :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
