Hi friends. Jury duty today so I took a couple of pics of the courthouse. For those Law & Order fans, you'll probably recognize it. Enjoy.

Many years ago I was called for jury duty. I knew one of the people and the judge still made me stay until 4pm. Weird.

Also called for federal grand and got off because i have ADD. I was thrilled because the case went on for almost 1 month.

This cold sucks!!

Went for Japanese hibachi dinner tonight. I was carrying the left overs in and tilted the container. My pants, winter jacket and mail all got it. Dumb move. It was my very old ski jacket from over 20 years ago and not my new white coat.

Tomorrow I have to take my MIL to the eye specialist and with the wind chill around 0 and she is almost 92. I think she should cancel but you can;t tell her shit.

Stay warm everyone and cover up.

Arlene

Oh yeah...it's pretty cold in NYC. Single digits with the wind factor. I can't warm up even in my apartment. In fact, I ordered silk thermal underwear yesterday. I never needed that kind of insulation but oh boy, do I need it now.

believe it or not I have two pairs of silk thermals and I wear them in the winter here. they are great when I trail ride my horse on cold days. I also ordered a pair for my granddaughter who will be moving to Nebraska next year. Stay warm and safe.

I have only had one fill. Since then I have been experiencing acid reflux. Hard to tell if it is from bad nerves from work or band

Warm greetings to all my BP friends!!! I hope you are all finding a way to stay warm!! I know it's really sad that we complain about the cold when after all it is winter. I think I am complaining less about the cold as compared to the way this weather is affecting my body.

I am not a piece of wood and my body does not expand and contract well. Just a couple of weeks ago the weather here in NY was nearly at 70 and today it's about 7 degrees. I'm sure my age doesn't help matters much, but I have to tell you that the headaches and the body aches that come with these crazy temps is driving me insane!!

Jim, I refuse to 'Like' that post! Yikes. -12 here on the side of Monadnock right now.

Got a good workout in -- basement so cold nothing to do but keep turning the treadmill up. Feels good to relieve stress through exercise instead of trying to tamp it down with food. Great to have made these changes in my life.

Have a great day, all!

I hear what you're saying about the aches and pains of the cold. I never used to be bothered by winter (with exception to driving to and from work in traffic during a storm) but now I am just a miserable at times. I am freezing all the time and a new one for me this year is my skin. I am either putting lotion or gold bond powder on my back and stomach to keep myself from tearing my skin off. I don't recall it being this bad last year. I don't know if it is wind burn or chafing but it is driving me nuts. I guess these are just signs that I need to get the loose skin removed.

Stay warm my friends only 71 days till Spring!!

Hey fellow bandsters, a little helpful trick that works for my extremely dry skin... If you are not allergic, try almond oil. After your shower or bath, with a shay butter soap my favorite is l'occutane, I rub almond oil head to toe. It really helps the dry skin and creates a little barrier I think.

Prior to banding, I took one- two flax seed oil capsules a day, now I find they are too large to swallow . Good luck! It's worth a try and only about 8$ in your grocery or health food store.

I'm taking liquid fish oil as I worry about the gel caps getting stuck. But I do remember that Krill oil capsules are a lot smaller. Something to consider. I take a Vitamin D that's in a small gel cap and am fine with that. But those old fish oil caps were huge; wouldn't dare try those now.

Stay warm, friends! I am so happy I invested in the big puffy coat this year.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
