May 28-31st Sleeve Week!

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on the 27th. Everything went well except I had horrible nausea. I didn't get any fluids on the 28th. Started taking in fluids on the 29. fruit juice and Water was good but the Protein Drinks hurt my stomach. No real pain. I've been walking. I feel Ike I should be eating something but I'm not hungry just sipping juice and water. I'm happy the surgery is over and recuperation hasn't been bad. My follow up is next Friday. On a liquid diet till then.

Post op day 3 got to progress on to purée foods. Tried Greek yogurt and Soup sent thru blender. For dinner quick cooked oatmeal. Only about 2 tbsp at a time. Still BURPING after most of time. It has lessened a bit. No nausea. Upper back pain and chest discomfort from the air trapped inside still. Hope that goes away soon. All I know is when I had the yogurt it tasted so good!!! Don't get to progress from yogurt blended soup or liquids till day 7. Only took pain meds once while preparing for bed. Doing the color run tomorrow. Hoping walking will get that air moving and out! First night out with friends at restaurant. I got soup and ate the broth. Wasn't even hungry as I watched others eat. I just miss flavor. So bought some PB2 ( dehydrated peanut butter) to increase the Protein of shake and add some flavor. So far so good.

I came home last night from being sleeved on the 28th. Only had pain meds the first day I was in the hospital. Did so well they let me roam as I pleased and they kept saying they wished all their patients were as happy as me lol Gas has subsided which was my only real discomfort. Kind of shocked to see I had 9 incisions! 2 that are pretty bruised but they dont really bother me. I need to work on drinking so I dont get dehydrated. Just so easy to not want anything right now! All in all so glad to be home just have to keep reminding the kids to stay away from my belly lol

Not to be graphic or tmi... Has anyone had any bm issues? I've gone quite a few times, obviously very loose.. :-/ I usually hear stories that people don't go for days on end...

TMI continued... I had explosive Water BMs late day 2 and all day day 3, and now just gas. When I left the hospital day 2 I was told I would have water stool until I passed all of the contrast from the 3 leak tests I underwent pre discharge. I was sleeved on the 27th.

Single mama I am right there with you on fluids. I have to do it for 20 days! But I believe if I do a strawberry smoothie or something that counts as Fluid so that's exciting. Ohhhhh or an orange Julius?? Lol. Kidding.

If your Protein Drinks seem very heavy dilute them. One person I was following on YouTube would take a pitcher, add Isopure, extra Water and crystal light make it taste better and drink that throughout the day. that pitcher was 40 grams of Protein so it was one way to get in an extra 40 grams if you're doing everything else.

I have been in a room with a fan now since after my surgery yesterday. But I'm not allowed to have water until its been 24 hours since my surgery, I think that's about noon. I have gone for a couple bottles of water just putting it in my mouth and splashing around thinking out let me tell you never been so thirsty in my life. I feel like someone walked into the desert in the Bible. Without the fan its just too hot, but it causes serious dry mouth!

Everyone check in with what day you are at what you are allowed to eat/drink. I'm going to add it to my spreadsheet. I'm curious to see if trends occur in people who started on puree right away vs liquid etc. Our own little focus group :-)

Going to go try and walk. But I think they need to add more morphine into drip

I am so happy to see that the vision thing isn't just me! It's been hard to read posts but I keep doing it because I'm bored. Lol

Luckily for me I've had 0 nausea and very little gas. I maybe have a couple of hiccups and a cough and that's it. Maybe all of that is related to the fact that I haven't been able to drink anything since 10 p.m. The night before surgery. Perhaps he figured out after a couple thousand surgeries that if people don't drink, they don't have nausea. So I am thankful for the rule even though I am dying of thirst. I really can't wait for glass of water!

Today is the barium test and then I get another leak test (blue dye) tomorrow before I go home on Monday. My doctor likes to do 3 the test to make sure everyone is perfect.

perhaps it is the contrast from my leak test also. I was also doing a lot of reading online and basically " liquid in, liquid out"

I'm doing well also, surgery was 29th but day of surgery and yesterday was rough. Not a lot of gas pain except my stomach rumbling and churning. I'm on liquids for a week and then I can try some pureed food. I'm walking better but I had no energy the first few days and slept constantly. Today is first time I could watch some tv. It really hurts to get in and out of bed and chairs but I expected that with stitches.

Yesterday, when I felt so awful, I questioned just why I did this to myself. But it gets better and today I am so glad I am on this journey to weight loss.

Going home in a few and may hang out in the recliner for a few days.

Glad everyone is doing well.

@@Nicci829 looks like we are on the same schedule! I can't imagine doing anything but liquid for awhile anyway. Poor cut up stomach needs some rest.

I'm in the hospital today and tomorrow. While on my computer I have a 3 minute loop on a timer (you can use your phone too) Its a good way to remember to keep sipping.

Day 2 post op for me. My abdomen has been very tight. I assume gas pain. Super tender to turn over. Vision is still blurry and I've had a stiff neck since Day 1. These are things I mostly expected but unfortunately my back issue are back from laying around so much. I used an ice pack on my tummy last night and then just moved it to back to my sciatica. That seemed to help. I also notice that the cold is really bothersome going down. Thing I will have to do my liquid room temp. Tried my multi chewable. I need to chew it more. Crushing my depression meds isn't working out for me. It's such a nasty flavor. On a positive note, My husband is surprised how well I'm doing. We just walked around the block. Took all my energy to do so but I did it.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
