SUGAR is my ENEMY

Recommended Posts

I haven't had sugar in my diet for over a year and a half........

Fast forward to this past weekend......

I had TWO (not one, but TWO) CHUNKS of cake from our favorite bakery, a pitcher of RUM PUNCH (with several shots of EXTRA rum added to it).......... and I went right into a SUGAR COMA (that's an expression..... I didn't really go into a "coma") for the rest of the weekend. Woke up with a headache........ and NOT from a hangover.......

I'm 100% sure it was from all the DAMN SUGAR.

Thank God, I did not have the old withdrawal symptoms I used to have every time I WENT ON A DIET AND TRIED TO GET OFF THE SUGAR........

LESSON LEARNED.......... MY BODY CANNOT TOLERATE SUGAR!

I hear ya. I've been wrestling with the same demon for a couple of weeks now. What's odd, it was never a problem before(except Halloween).

On Mother's Day I decided I "deserved" a piece of cake. We were at a retirement center visiting with my parents and it's always hard to be in that environment. Anyway, my old brain wiring likes to offer up rewards in terms of food. The rest of the meal had not worked for me and so I decided to get dessert. It was yucky. One bite of that chocolate icing and I could tell it just wasn't going to be worth it, so I set it aside. That was a real triumph. The band! I think the moral of the story for me is that if I'm going to splash out like that on occasion it needs to be something that's worth it. And it needs to be in moderation. I can't put myself in harm's way by having certain treats in the house (or visiting a bakery in New Orleans, lol!). You are doing great and learned an important lesson. Your body doesn't want it no matter what the brain says ("Come on, just a bite!"). My brain really, really wants a wine and cheese party (pretty much constantly, lol ) and I have to watch out for that. Goes down so easy!

Today is my Day #40 without sugar. I'm so proud of myself! I am crazy addicted to sugar... it's insane. We are traveling to Visalia this weekend though to visit my hubby's sister and she always cooks such wonderful sweet treats. I tell myself that I can have a very tiny piece of the one goodie that appeals to me the most and enjoy it, but I will also make sure I eat tons of Protein during dinner so that it won't cause too much of a sugar spike. I do this even eating a serving of fruit and actually works wonders.

No sugar coma here! I'm going to be a good girl. ^_^

You know for a while there I was having this manic sugar craving!! I had stopped eating sugar for so long...using all these "artificial" substitutes and pretty much not eating any carbs or fruits really and my body was going crazy for lack of sugar!

I actually "needed" some sugar according to my endocrinologist as my electrolytes were out of balance. Of course that didn't mean I could have cake and Cookies and ice cream though for a while there my body was craving that crap so badly all was doing what gravitating toward that! Now I am just eating what I know I should eat, having some fruit and vegies now and then, and keeping the diet filled with healthy sugars :)

Though a nice rum induced coma...I could probably use one of those for a weekend!!

@@lisacaron when that happens to me I will eat a half piece of medium fruit and make sure I also eat something with it that has some Protein in it. It helps curb those awful sugar cravings but the Protein helps keep my sugar spike from going too high. Yes, our bodies do need sugar! It's so much fun trying to balance all this stuff isn't it? Ha!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
