Does anyone how many months you lose hair?

I had my surgery in November, 2013 - my hair loss started in the 2nd month and has continued to month 6. It's slowing down considerably now. Some days I could get a handful of hair - it was horrifying. My doc OK'd Biotin and Folic Acid. She said "whatever you lose due to the surgery will grow back."

I have lots of new growth coming in, which makes styling a challenge, but am glad it's coming back. I also have a bald spot where my bangs should be - it's disheartening, but I can see some new growth.

For the bald spot, I use a product called Toppik - you can look them up on the internet. It works just like how the video shows it. It covered so well that my stylist didn't even know I was using it until after she washed my hair.

I use the hair building fibers - I purchased the took kit and the regular sized bottle. I still have about 1/2 the bottle left and I use it daily. I apply it with the spray applicator which works best for me.

At 3 months the NUT said I ate too much protein. I had to revise the diet. My hair is thin and coming out for the past two months. Dealing with it.

My hair started falling out as soon as I hit 3 months. I knew it would happen but the reality of it is scary and depressing. I used to have such thick hair and now it is so thin, I have another 6 months of this at least but I'm afraid I don't have enough hair to see me through that long. I've upped my Protein and B=12 and I'm taking Biotin. I know that won't help with the Hair loss but it should promote regrowth. Just hope the regrowth is as fast as the fall out.

There are two schools of thought on this...There are those who swear by Protein and Biotin and those who feel it is a genetic luck of the draw. I am not sure which way I follow as each have made compelling arguments. What I can tell you is I am and EXTREME extreme when it comes to Hair loss. In my early 20s I lost a substantial amount of hair due to PCOS. In my late 30s I had a baby and the hair loss after birth made things even thinner. I started using hair fibers at that time to help hide my thinning hair. In 2011 and again in 2013 I had DVTs ( blood clots) in my leg and both times suffered pulmonary embolisms. I am now on blood thinners for life. The Warfarin has played havoc on my hair, causing further loss. By the time I was preparing for surgery and read about the possibility of hair loss I knew it would be bad for me. I purchased a couple wigs in anticipation. Well just over a month post op I decided it was time to start wearing them. I chose the Thanksgiving holiday as the time to take the plunge. ( That way I had several days away from co workers. Most thought I just had my hair professionally styled finally! LOL) Anyway about 3 months post op it was a good thing I was already wearing the wig. My hair thinned to the point I looked like someone on chemotherapy. The top and sides of my hair are barely existent, just scattered wispy hairs. The back of my hair, which had remained pretty thick to that point, thinned dramatically. It has recently seemed a bit heavier, possibly some regrowth. But I am unsure if I will ever have a head full of hair again. Given my history and the other reasons I have suffered with hair loss it is likely I will continue to wear wigs from here on out. ( FYI- all my "after" pics posted on this site are of me in a wig)

After seeing SO MANY threads about this topic, I decided to consult a dermatologist and surgeon about this. They both told me that of course everyone is different but that ultimately it is something that CAN'T be avoided :( no matter how many pills and products you use. They said that with surgery your body goes through shock and is looking for any kind of resource in your body to stabilize. The body is losing nutrients with surgery and it takes a while for the body to adjust which is why the amount of Protein you take doesn't matter initially and why the Hair loss lasts a couple of months. It's going to take a few months for the body (and hormones) to stabilize and get back to normal and then your hair starts growing back. Initially I was concerned because I've always had long hair and pride myself in my hair but I also have PCOS which causes my hair to come out in chunks, luckily I don't have any bald spots but it's something that I'm use to so for me a couple more months of hair loss in exchange for weight loss and a new, healthier version of myself is something I'll gladly deal with! Plus, I already have my weave picked out if needed lol.

Sorry to hear what happen to you...hopefully it will all grow back thicker...I can deal with it being shorter but not thinner...I am emotionally preparing myself to cut it off if it gets bad...good luck to all

When I had my 5.5 month stay due to complications from WLS...All my hair fell out. i came home to 2 little strands on either side of my head. I did not eat for over 5 months and so did not get the proper nutrients to keep it or regrow it...

I started to take Biotin and Protein and upped the Vitamins and soon I started to see little fuzzies coming up all over my head....

I have short hair now but my hubby likes it that way.....Losing hair is part of the package of WLS. Once your vitamins are established and your eating protein and drinking the right amount of water..Thing will change...This from the girl who lost it all except 2 strands of course!!!!!!! :)

I am almost 6 months post. I've always had a lot of hair and always complained about it, but at month 5 I started to worry when my hair started falling out. Anyway, my hair dresser recommended "hair infinity" Vitamin and "it's a 10" hair products. I started using both two weeks ago and my hair has stopped falling. I hope this can help someone struggling with the same problem.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
