Hi all!!! I am schedule to be banded tomorrow and wanted to get my first post out so that I can hopefully get some support from the veterans that are on here. :). I have to admit that I am starting to get a little nervous now!! I have been excited since I made the decision to do this, but today I am worried about the recovery and pain I may have after. Any post op surgery advice or words of encouragement would greatly appreciated! ;). I look forward to getting to know many of you. I am sticking to my belief that being on a site such as this can only be yet another "tool" to help me succeed!

Be positive. I had very little pain post op and I know I'm not the only one.

@@cfryer03 Tomorrow is my big day too! I'm nervous and really on edge. I'm trying to keep in mind all the reasons why I wanted this in the first place. I'm sure any one facing any sort of surgery feels some apprehension, so I need to relax.

I've been reading the posts here for several weeks and it looks like the great majority of bandsters do well. Even those who report some problems help me to know what to expect and how to cope, so stick around and we'll get though this! Good luck!

Congrats! I was banded back in September and I was crazy nervous right until I fell asleep on the table. But, I have no regrets!

It's easier said than done, but don't stress over the recovery pain. Mine wasn't nearly as bad as I had imagined it would be.

My advice is this: 1. Listen to your doctor. Do what they tell you to do. Eat what they tell you to eat. Follow those guidelines. When you have questions about pains or food, ask your doctor. 2. Get up and move. It helps with the post-surgery gas pains. 3. Come here for support. We are generally friendly :) 4. Don't compare yourself to others. You are unique and special...why would you try to be like someone else?

You are going to do amazing things!

Hi there and congratulations both of you. It's a nerve-wracking time, this lead-up to the big day. I had never been an overnight patient in a hospital before and it was all so much more pleasant than I thought it would be. I took my sense of humor with me and that was good. Every one took such great care of me. I compared the surgery to other things like dentistry, which I hate, or the recovery discomfort to cramps, etc. and I found that helped me not get all wrapped up in the mind-game of how we receive pain information. I got my prescription for pain medication filled but did not use it as I find narcotics to be very constipating. I actually had that problem even from just the anesthesia -- it's something to look out for and to talk over with your medical professionals so you're not on here at day four or so saying help! The walking cannot be over-emphasized. It's just the best -- kicks the body into healing mode. When I woke up from the surgery and felt like I needed to pee I took a walk up and down the hallway with the IV pole. By morning I was doing good laps and then I continued once home around our driving circle. There were a few people who came to visit and I had them walk around with me. It not only helps with shaking off the anesthesia and releasing any trapped gas, it also will help with everything inside going back into place. Water, walking, sleep all so good for healing. Oh, the other thing that helped me was sheer excitement. It's not like being in the hospital as a result of an accident or illness -- this was something I was choosing. Choosing myself and my healthy future! So I felt very excited and empowered. It's a tremendous step and I'm so happy I did it. Six months out now and I can't recall those early days of incisional pain or the difficulty getting up and down from bed, etc. Just take it easy, keep thanking yourself for what you're doing and know that you're not alone. And come tell us how you're doing! Best wishes for a great day tomorrow -- it will be one that you'll be marking in the years to come. New Chapter!

I am new here and just hope that everything is going okay for you!! The best advice I have to give is....take it easy and be gentle with yourself! I got banded 2 years ago (wow...time has gone by) and this weekend is the first time I've posted because I really went into a hole mentally. That said, I'm glad I came here because there are so many people who are so helpful!!! This is an awesome site and I only wish I started to actually come here sooner!!

You'll do great...as others have said, try and keep moving as much as possible. I had next to no pain...although I took my prescription pain meds like clockwork.

I'm coming up on 5 years post op and would do it again in a minute!

Congrats on taking the first step to a healthy new you! :)

Good luck! I had very little discomfort after the surgery. Most of my issue was being tired from the anesthesia. Stay positive and try to follow your Dr's rules as best you can. Looking forward to your updates!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
