Appetite suppressants? Will they help deal with pre-op?

Recommended Posts

Are there any appetite suppressants to help get through the 2 week pre-op diet? I'm 4 days into it & already tired of the Meal Replacement foods! I'm very impatient to things like this!

There are, but its very hard to get doctors to prescribe them. I also think you should really tough out the pre-op diet, because it gives you a good look at what the first couple months of your diet after the sleeve will look like. When you find yourself eating things that aren't on your plan, stop for a few minutes and think about what is driving that motivation. Are you bored, lonely, feel like you're missing something, anxious? Self analyzing in these situations becomes extremely important after the surgery.

My surgeon allowed 1 Fiber capsule if needed for hunger during pre op, but after about the 4th or 5th day, it really does get easier. I didn't believe it, but it does. Good Luck.

I just want to point out that your decision to have this surgery is something you need to be putting your whole heart and soul into. The entire process involves sacrifices that can't just be bypassed by taking a pill. You need to be committed and hopefully excited about the changes you are facing. You need to make a lot of lifestyle changes for this surgery to be a success, not just look for a quick fix. I'm sure I'll get slammed for being a big meanie, but seriously, this is only 2 weeks out of the rest of your life. We were all in your shoes and yeah, it sucked but you need to focus on the end goal. You will have to find a way to control your hunger and cravings and emotional eating issues for the rest of your life, you might as well start now. (And yes, more than likely, you will still feel hungry post op.)

My doctor put me on phentermine for my three month supervised diet (his idea, I didn't even ask for it). I've taken it before with some success, but it honestly doesn't do a lot for me. I don't really feel any different. Fortunately no side effects, but only a slight decrease in appetite so far. Anyhow, some of the information my surgeon's office gave me included no diet pills for at least two weeks before surgery. So just make sure you clear it with your surgeon before taking anything. And whatever happens, best of luck! You can do this.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
