June 2007 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi Junies!

Like BigBaby, I also had support group meeting last night & it was helpful. The therapist brought some products for us to sample by Kays Naturals (I'm not sure if anyone has posted about these before). They offer Protein chips and cereals. I couldn't try any because I had a fill yesterday but the others in the group said they were good.

Went to the doc today for second fill. It was most interesting.

First fill was 2 1/2 weeks ago. I felt no pain. I felt nothing when he injected the saline. I received 1 cc in a 4 cc band. I never felt restriction or PBed, slimed, etc. A few things got painfully stuck when I ate too fast or too big a bite, but always passed after a few minutes.

Well, I went in today and had gained a few pounds. **SHOCKING!!** Anyway, I asked him if it were possible my first fill was gone... absorbed... evaporated... whatever... He said it was and he was about to find out. He then stabbed me in my stomach! lol..the first time was a little pinch... this was a BIOTCH!! My port is right there. I feel it so easily. There was no digging involved... he just stabbed the hell outta me! lol... i still love him.

Anyway, he was going to inject me with another 1cc of saline (2 cc total). He stuck the needle in and pulled back... NOTHING!! Every bit of my first fill was gone! I heard him ask for the Omnipac (which shocked me cause he is so by the book..). Anyway, he put 2 ccs of omnipac in me and I FELT IT GO IN THE BAND!! It was freaky!!!

He waited a minute and took it all back out. All 2 ccs came back out. He said if I had a big leak some of it would have already been gone. Nothing to worry about he said. sometimes the first fill disappears. the omnipac should fix it.

I'm on liquids today. I can feel them, but they are passing fine.

The journey begins again tomorrow! I pray for results! I'm desperate!

mjsafari- I agree with you about the problems your husband has been having. I too had a severe case of acid reflux before surgery. I have been on Nexium for about 2 years. I had major problems right after surgery. My Dr had me stop taking my Nexium. Like your husband I would PB if I ate anything heavier than Soup (including eggs), I hadn't even had a fill yet. My GP put me back on the Nexium (3 weeks ago) and I am finally feeling better and ready to go for my first fill since my unfill. I am only PBing if I forget to chew well. My fill is scheduled for 9-7. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can take about 1CC.

Steph How is that possible that you only eat 700 cals and don't lose weight. That is soooo little. I really agree with the starvation theory. There are lots of studies to show that people who starve themselves lose weight more and more slowly as time goes by. One study with Optifast (complete Meal Replacement drink) showed that people drinking that lost more than the other group who were fasting!! Anyway thanks for being such a great poster, I always enjoy you.

QUESTION why can I eat a three course meal no probs and then another time get stuck on a couple of bites of something. Why does it vary so much???

I hear what you are saying...believe me. But I'm not eating so little, really. I just eat mostly really low cal foods. Grilled salmon and brocolli is dinner a lot of nights! I can't really eat in the mornings, but I always have a protien shake with Benefiber every day for one meal. I snack on Jello, light string cheese, animal crackers, lower-calorie fruits. I just search out the really low cal foods. Thank goodness I LOVE brocolli and brussell sprouts! I EAT, trust me! Self-deprivation has never been my strong suit! :)

Here's a link to my blog on My-Calorie-Counter.com, which has my food journal. hungry.gif

I'd love any feedback if anyone cares to take a look! eek.gif(This week has been the worst week ever, though. My eating was great from surgery up till this week.)

Also, my original goal from surgery until about 2 or 3 weeks ago was 600-800 calories. When the weight loss slowed, someone suggested increasing it, so I went to 900. That broke my plateau and I lost five pounds, then I started to gain, so I just dropped back to 700. I figure if I can keep my body guessing, it won't go into starvation mode!

(I bet you'd never guess that I'm not much of a talker, huh? LOL I'm really not...but when I don't know something or if I can share something related to learning, I'M ALL OVER IT! And this band is one big question, now isn't it?)

Here's another question. If anyone took a look at my food journal you will see a dramatic change this week...I'm snacking like crazy! I had a fill this morning, so I am not hungry at all, but I'm fighting "head hunger". What do you do for this other than to select smart Snacks? I've never experienced this before in my life! It is making me crazy(er)!

Hey all!

I got my 2nd fill today! I have a 10cc band and last time I got 4cc, today she gave me 2cc for a total of 6cc. I didn't feel any different when Iw as drinking the Water - but I hope I can feel some restriction when I start mushies on Saturday. I can't go back for another fill for 4 weeks. Thats the soonest they do them. I begged the NP today to let me come back in 2 weeks if I don't feel restricted, she said she would take bribes but then if it ended up being over-fills then she was the on call NP and didn't want to have to come back in at 3am. Lol. I really like her. We also discussed head hunger and stuff. Oh, and I had lost 6 pounds in the last 4 weeks. I was wanting more, but I knew that it wouldn't be. I was surprised at the 6! I told her I just go up and down 2 pounds all week long. I'm sick and tired of seeing the same numbers on my scale! SHe told me to quit weighing myself... Hmmm, now THERE is some advise. Haha

OK. I'm worn out.

Goodnight!

TGIF.... I lost 2 lbs!! I am excited...but still slooooooooooow. :whoo:

Stef we love broccoli and brussell sprouts here too. Do you do anything different to them other than boil or steam them. My kids love them but I think if I give them the same thing every day they will not love them forever.

You are so fortunate that your kids will even GO NEAR brussel sprouts! LOL No, I just boil them. Not even added salt. I'm the only one in the house that eats them.

My official weigh-in day is Fridays. I gained 0.6 pounds this week. I can't believe it. Well, time to refocus my eating. I think it is not how much or how little I'm eating, but WHAT I'm eating. I'm dissappointed. <SIGH>

My favorite way to eat brussel sprouts is to lightly drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with garlic salt in a corning ware dish with lid and microwave for a few minutes, yum... also works with asparagus...

Suzzzie, me too! I had only lost 2 pounds this month though...congratulations on the 6!! I yo-yo back and fourth with 3 pounds as well. Hopefully this new fill today will help. I notice I am burping more today than normal. I have 2 cc's now in a 4 cc band.

Gadzooks! I'm on a 4-day diet and am down 8 pounds in 2 days! I'm off carbs, salt (I'm sure a lot of the loss is water), chemicals, additives, sugar, etc. I'm hoping this will get me back on track.

Congrats Suzzzzzie and Pippz!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
