Goodmorning;

I have been trying to read and keep up everymorning reading the posts which helps me get off to a great start in the morning. You guys are great!

Toni - Wow, but look at the positive, at least the dr. did not move it in the future and you would have to wait longer. But any change in your mind set makes us go nuts! I am excited for you but now you won't be banded with me! You can have your experience to coach all of us Junies! I am glad you are staying with us.

Heather- Maybe you can put Toniteach on the calendar, adding May 31. I am glad she wants to stay with the group.

Kt- I agree about drinking and calories. I will not have anything, no wine, for the next 4 weeks, 2 pre and 2 post! I cracked a bottle last night. I plan to be ready to sip on some at my son's wedding, July 7!

Missy and JackieP12 - you are fortunate for having your husbands going through this together. That is cool. You will be able to learn from each other. My husband is supportive, but never had a weight issue, so he has a hard time relating.

Musicalmomma-- I understand about sharing. It is hard. My family will find out when I am not eating at my son's wedding on July 7. They live in PA, 5 hours away, so I why call and tell them and listen to the "why's"? That is why I think this is forum is so great for us.

Today is my last day of regular eating and then I am with many of you! I went out last night and bought some of the things I can eat and my slimfast. I am ready!!

Have a great day everyone.

Janine

Faith: Thanks for the info on the AP band. :grouphug:

Toni: I'm glad you're staying with us even though your date moved up! I'm not sore at all today!!! i can't believe it!! Can't wait to get out and ride again today!

Missy and JackieP12 : My hubby is doing the band too! Right now he's going through an appeal, but we hope he'll be banded some time in August!

Welcome to all our new Junies!!!

Pre-op diet is FAST approaching. My darling husband took me to Green Bay last night (30 miles away!) to my favorite steak house. We figure it'll be a LONG time before I can eat steak again, if at all. Then I have a meeting tonight and band practice tomorrow night, then pre-op diet...so...my eating out days are over for a while :) I'm not upset about it though, I hit all the places I wanted to before hand and said "farewell" haha!

Have a great day everyone!

Hi Junies!

Hotty....I still can't get over that calendar! It rocks! And you get to drink diet coke some day????? OMGOSH!!!!!! That is unreal! Can we trade surgeons!??!:grouphug: j/k I really do love mine, but if he gave me that news....I'd kiss his feet!!!!! Thanks for the head's up on the calories in Viactive. Figures!!!! I do have a super-huge container of tums, though, so I'm ready!

Nvalcia, how's the diet and headaches going? Hope the Migraines are at bay. I really can empathize with you there! I even take Topamax to prevent them. :)

Welcome Lisa and Dakota!

Suzzzie....I have thought a little bit about what you touched on. I LOVE Wendy's vanilla Frosty's, etc.... and know they will sabotage any hard work I put into the band. You are so right about it being a tool!!!! I think I have to walk away from them for good or reward myself for every 10 or 20 lbs. lost with one. I haven't decided!!!! Belive me, with being self-pay, it makes it even more scary. It's like I have to be extra mindful...extra careful....extra committed to doing the right thing. I have a friend who was banded 11 months ago who has lost 108 pounds. Her success, she claims, was that she shadowed another bandster. I think that's key. We can support one another on this board through diet and exercise (and she doesn't exercise much that I know of!)

Maybe that's an idea we could throw around: We could find a buddy to shadow from this board---a co-sponsor-buddy-system of sorts. I know I'd love to have one. Just a thought!

Cheers!

Toni

Toni,

My headaches are getting better, thanks for asking. The liquid diet has gotten a little easier and I have stuck to it 100%.

Has anyone seen the commercials for the new TV program Big Medicine? It will premeire on May 28 on TLC. Here's the website:

TLC :: Big Medicine

It looks very cool. I can't see where it says they do the bypass, or lap band ... maybe they do both? Anyway, just thought I'd pass this along, in case anyone else was interested in seeing it!

STILL waiting to hear back from my surgeon about a date!! I am so so tempted to call them today to see what the hold up is. Lol... "hold up" - I just had my first consultation 2 weeks ago. I think I just feel like its taking so long cause I've wanted this for about 4 years. Oh well... I'll be in Las Vegas next week, so that will distract me for a while...

Have a good day all!

Hello Junies,

I have good news! The liquid diet is not as bad as I had thought. Don't get me wrong, the first three days were VERY tough, but I'm on day 6 and it sems to get easier every day. I've decided that cheating (at all) is not an option for me. Therefore, I don't even think about food, really. I've lost 12 pounds so far, so that makes it even better.

-I just thought this info may make you feel better if you will have to do the two-week pre-op liquid diet. Also, I have found one pudding/shake powder that is actually good. (Most others are gross or barely tolerable to me.) Anyway, I order it from mydietshopz.com. It is called zpro 25, and it is made by R-kane. The other great thing about it is you can mix it with 2 oz. Water when your pouch is tiny, then with 4 oz. when you have a little more room. Right now I mix it with 6-8 oz of cold water and it tastes kind of like thick chocolate milk. I haven't tried the vanilla yet!

I also have a question for those of you with treadmills. Is it really worth the money to buy an expensive one, or do the cheaper ones work well enough? My husband tells me I'm wasting my money, and it will just be a dust collector! Is he right?

Lisa H, I have a cheap one at home that collects major dustbunnies. I use some at cardiac rehab and I LOVE those. I think my favorites are the Precor and the Quinton. But I've grown to totally hate the treadmill altogether, it feels like I'm a rabbit chasing a dangling carrot. I suppose it would be better if there were TV's on front of them or a book rack on it like you could have at home.

I guess I'd have to say that I think the more expensive ones are completely worth the cost, if you are going to use them. I have fallen in love with the NuStep (it's a recumbent stair stepper).

As far as tredmills go - i don't like them! I can burn double the calories in the same time frame using the elliptical. On the tredmill I feel like I'm just walking walking walking forever... but on the elliptical I almost feel like I am running(!) and I haven't been able to run in YEARS. Lol. At my gym both the ellipticals and tredmills have TVs and DVD players on them, so that helps pass time too.

PS, the tredclimber is also FABULOUS. But, I can only do about 5 minutes on it right now. Its a GREAT workout!

Hi :)

Great to read everyones posts... we are quite a number now so that's great!!

Toni... v.pleased that you are staying with us, you will be our No.1!!

Lisa... Congrats with your pre-op, that is so amazing and I am sooooo jealous (in a good way!) at your 12lb loss in 6 days... I am onto day 7 and have only lost 5.5lbs. :clap2:

As for the treadmill... I love mine, it is a good one which I think makes a lot of difference. I also do a lot of road walking with a good friend of mine but I love the treadmill in the winter or on rainy days or when Dani can't make it... I can also run on the treadmill (to embarrassed to run in public) so I can get fitter in the privacy of my own home (trust me... me running is not a pretty sight but I love it!). I put MTV or juice on the TV and do 70 minutes... the time passes really quickly!

Ja9va... You just reminded me that I have romantic weekend away with hubby at the end of June so may have to turn that 6 week post-op without wine into 4 weeks!!!

I have to admit that the pre-op diet is OK... for all of you about to start hang in there because it really does get easier after day 3.

Cheers

I start my pre op diet in the morning 1 pro shake in the morning, 1 pro shake at lunch, and 4-6 oz cooked lean meat 1/2 cup greens for dinner for 5 weeks. I started trying to eat better about 5 weeks ago and am down 25lbs. I don't really care much for the pro shakes so I hope I could get over it and just choke them down. Well anyway, time is really flying I just wanted everyone to know where I stand and what I am doing. I wish the best of luck to everyone and I will talk to ya all soon.

Dan

:help: :help: :):D  OK, so should I be concerned that I know nothing about a preop diet and my surgery is June 4th??? Should I just do my own thing??

LisaMack, Some doctors don't require a pre-op diet for two weeks. I think they all (or most all) require a 24 hour clear liquid diet. Will you be meeting with doctor again before the surgery? I would think if he was going to require an extended diet he would have already told you about it. My doctor says that the 2 week liquid diet that is low carb, low fat, high Protein helps to shrink your liver. Otherwise it sits right on top of your stomach and make it more difficult to operate. I am glad I've had to do this diet, because I have a greater appreciation for food now. I used to eat mindlessly, and just take it for granted. Right now, I would love to have any kind of healthy food. I think it is also preparing me to really think about what I eat instead of just shoveling it in!! If you aren't supposed to meet with your doctor soon, it wouldn't hurt to call them to see if you should do a diet. Good luck!

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
