June 2007 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi Janine!

I totally forgot about your son's wedding!!!!:omg: My Bad!!!! Have a GREAT time! :) You never did tell me if it was at 7 p.m. or not! <wink> ;)

I'm about to throw my scale to the curb! Don't worry.....I think we will start seeing it move again when we get our 2nd or 3rd fill, if we can just wait that long. The waiting is the hardest part! Sorry you have to wait three more weeks....uggggggh!

Hang in there!

Hugs,

Toni

Besides Missy, did anyone watch this show last night? I'm addicted to it! Well, it's high-level interest because I think I may have already posted that I know someone who was banded by Dr. "Big D." Davis and someday I hope to lose enough weight so that I can have a lower body lift by Dr. Lomonaco!

Anyway....if you want to check out the next episode on Monday, the 9th at 9 p.m. EST on TLC, they are going to have a banded patient (as opposed to the gastric bypass patients that are normally on the show). I can't wait!

BTW....MISSY.....above your avatar, you may want to change your wording since you're in BANDLAND!!!!!!! ;) Yippee!!!!

Cheers,

Toni

thanks Toni - I have been struggling with my ticker so much I forgot about that!

I like the show, but I am disappointed that they don't use the band more. The psych was making me mad saying that guy was not ready for surgery. He is over 700lbs - get him losing weight and then work on his issues while he is losing like "Big D" said. He is going to die if they don't do something for him. I will be interested in his progress.

I LOVE BIG MEDICINE!! GReat show. I was wondering if they only did the bypass, then on some other thread either last night or early this morning I found someone on here who was banded by them.

Bigbaby, have you tried the EAS AdvantEdge shakes? The chocolate ones taste just like chocolate milk and have 17 grams of Protein. I think only 1 carb, no sugars and 110 calories. I do pretty good at getting 3 of them in a day and then get a bit of protein in other things here and there.

Are you feeling good?

Kland I'm feeling great!!! Prior to surgery, I was in SAM's and saw EAS in liquid pre-made shakes and powder. I purchased a HUGE bag of the powder (so that I could make different flavors)--It has 23g of protein.

I'm glad to know your eating habits because I am going to try it. I had been trying to train myself to have only 3 meals a day--in preparation for eating post-fill. However, I can't eat 3 meals, 2 Protein Shakes AND DRINK water!!! But the 2-4 hour period puts it in perspective. Thanks for the insight!!

BTW...AIGB was full for July, so I'm getting my fill at Surgery Center of Richardson, but I've already made my appointments at AIGB for August and September. The staff member told me that the two places may be merging soon.

TONI--I love BIG MEDICINE too.... I Tivo it....Can't stand Mary Jo...she's against everyone getting help. I Tivo'd a show called Inside Brookhaven Obesity Clinic. I didn't think too much of it....The narrarator seemed somewhat negative and some of the obese patients seemed to be exploited.

BigBaby - I agree about the Brookhaven show. The director of the facility is not even medically trained. I have yet to see a success story from that place. He has called surgery the easy way out more than once. I keep saying that I am not going to watch it anymore - but it reminds me of where I could be if I didn't have surgery.

I am very interested to see what they say about the Band on Big Medicine next week.

Oh boy, did I ever get my first lesson in chewing well today! I had my first fill yesterday and was doing just fine, but I grabbed a half a slice of deli turkey today, and it got stuck in my band! OMG that was horrible! It just wouldn't let loose! Finally, it all just came back up (sorry to be gross...couldn't think of a nice way to say it) and I felt a little better, but was nauseous for the rest of the day. I just sipped on Crystal Light for the rest of the day until about 9pm when I tried a little Soup. That did the trick...I feel 100% better now. I will NEVER eat too fast or not chew well enough again! For those who have yet to get their first fill, don't let this initial period make you overconfident! CHEW, CHEW, CHEW!

Toni My son is not getting married at 7! But 1 PM. I have been up since 5 am today, could not sleep thinking about all I have to do. The reception is in my yard, caterers, tents, decorations, etc! I love to entertain and when I retire I would love to be a party planner, but I am tired because it is my son's wedding and have to think of other things too. Crazy!! Maybe I won't have time to eat

Big Med I saw the show when I was clicking through, but never watched it. I will be sure to check it out this Monday!!

Stef thanks for the tip. Since I won't be filled for a bit I should use this time to practice slowing down and chewing. I have had deli meat stick already, but it did not come up. I paced and it finally moved, I could even feel it go down, creepy! But better then pbing!

Thanks Stef, I'm getting my first fill tomorrow, so will remember to chew. Luckily I don't eat meet but other stuff will prove pesky, I'm sure.

Janine - that sounds so frustrating. This can be such an annoyingly slow process at times. I bet you want to hit the FF button. It's all very well for your doctor to be calm and patient. She has a holiday coming up!

Good Morning All!

BB/Missy....you hit the nail on the head: on Big Medicine, I was wondering myself if Mari Jo wants anyone to get help. She seems like such a Devil's Advocate!!!! :angry I saw the Brookhaven show about a month ago when it was a marathon, and I liked it somewhat for the same reasons you mentioned....but I was so frustrated for them, too!

Java....wish I could help you out with the wedding...I remember when my Mom went through the same things...so much to worry about! And in the end it will all be perfectly fine!!!! You're a GREAT momma!

Insub....good to see you! How are you doing?!?

Stef....I had a "deli turkey" moment this morning with a few bites of a cinnamon roll. When, oh when, will I learn that I can't tolerate bread? !? :faint: After it came up, I was back to a Protein Shake for brekky. Nice, isn't it?

Speaking of protein...I went to a nutrition shop yesterday to pick up some Matrix 5.0 and the owner told me it 'wasn't all that great' and steered me toward another protein.....thank GOODNESS I only bought the small tub! I don't like it much. Sweetened with stevia...It's called Essential Natural 100% Protein and I should've known better....he was buffed to the max and looked the the poster child for Gold's Gym. I'm all about taste, and he's all about bulking up! Anyway, I really still like my AmazeRx best!

Where's our Calendar Girl, Hotty (Heather) and Musical Momma? Anyone seen them around?

Pippz, Cap'n GREAT job on the weight loss, I can't tell you enough!

Nina...I'll meet you at Cheesecake Factory when we meet our (mini?) goal!

Hugs to All!

:( for now

I saw somewhere that someone here is a patient of the Davis' and she says Mary Jo is really a wonderful person, but that she pulls no punches and is blatantly honest.

ja9va, hope the wedding went well. I would have given ANYTHING to have my MIL's help! You are truly a fantastic mom!

Stef, thanks for that reminder!

Toni, I like Stevia in moderation, I was debating ordering the Protein you mentioned because of the Stevia, but I'm glad I didn't as it wasn't all that great. I'm pretty anti Splenda or Nutrasweet unless there's no other choice. But now that I think about it more, I put very little Stevia in things to sweeten them, I don't know if I'd like something pre-sweetened with it.

dang, I can't get my stupid ticker to stick!

I just wanted to Celebrate - I am under 300! I was 299 this morning, which puts me down 29lbs since starting my pre-op on May 31st. I am cooking brownies to take to our family get together later. That will keep me away from eating them! I will proably just have a couple of ribs and a deviled egg.

Hi Faith,

I agree, Mari Jo, must be wonderful, or those two INCREDIBLE Doctors wouldn't have her on staff. But sometimes I just want to shake her skinny little butt and say, "Why aren't you doing your part to help get approval for these super-morbidly obese patients?!!!!"

As for the Essential Natural Protein powder...it might be better in a different flavor! I just blended the vanilla Cake with Water and ice. I wasn't *crazy* about it, but it wasn't bad, either. The AmazeRX is wonderful...but it is made with Splenda (sucralose is an ingredient).

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
