June 2007 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi, Janine! No, I had no outward signs of erosion. My third port incision finally healed of MRSA so they went in to do a fill on the 8th and the new nurse did a barium swallow following his fills. If not for that we wouldn't have known. Good to hear from you and glad to hear that you've got the scale moving back down.

Beckie - I'm so sorry to hear that! Eeesh! Will you ever get another band, or are you just DONE with the whole thing! I really feel awful about what you've been through. Here I have a perfectly functioning band and I eat crap and gain weight. I feel like I'm failing the band, the hot surgeon, you guys, and myself. Whatever you choose to do now, I wish you the best!!!

Janine - sorry to hear that you are stuck. I think, in general, the first year is either really good or really bad for bandsters... mine was good. Now I'm kinda sucking at it. I can eat food now, which I am so thankful for! But I still tend to choose junk foods. I've not had Pringles in a month or so, but I'm still relying on ice cream and cookie dough. I really think it's a total mental thing. I can eat real food and be full... and I wait about 20-30 mins and I"m after something sweet. I won't be hungry, and sometimes I'm still rather full, but I NEED something sweet. I think if I were a fruit eater it would help, but I just don't care for fruit. As a matter of fact, I was thinking earlier today about how I don't think I've had any fruits of veggies in a LONG time... at least 3 weeks... how sad is that? Not even one pea or kernal of corn. Maybe I need some sort of psycho therapy? lol.

Hope everyone else is doing good.

And where did Stefanie go to? She back for like, 2 days, and now she's gone.

Suzzie,

I know how hard it is to rely on junk. But I can't even eat chips sometimes, it is crazy. Of course never a problem with icecream. But you are right, about vegies. I really need to focus and concentrate on that one. I use to love salads, still do, but the band does not. did you ever try the broccoli and cheese singes by green giant? they are low in calories and good.

i went to a spin class last night at the gym and boy did that kick my butt, literally. I thought with all my cushion it killed my a--, how do bony butts do it!! LOL!

well, off to work. Everyone have a great day and week.

Hi everyone. I just got a fill last night. Funny how I think of this group when I get fills. How is everyone doing? Before we know it, it will be our 2 year bandiversary.

I need to get back on the band wagon. Anyone else?

bigbaby--yes, that is correct. I haven't had one. The weight was coming off nicely, so I didn't see the point of getting a fill. Well, when the weight slowed down, time for a fill, my doctor left the city. So I'm transferring to another doctor, which took 6 months just to get an appointment. It's today and I'm very excited!

hEY sUZZ! I'm sorry you're still not doing well. How is your restriction? What are you eating? How is the exercise?

Same old same old problems with me. And, I'm thinking it's MY problem. I get closed off, but then again I'm trying to eat too early, and then when I pb, instead of quitting...no, I try eating again and again. So instead of an unfill I'm going to try to get more disciplined and do more liquids when I'm tight. I actually blended up bean and bacon Soup the other day, which I haven't done since after my surgery.

I guess if we really think about it, you're down 56 pounds and I'm down 45 from our highest, and that makes us a LOT healthier!

Email me or myspace me if you want. We can encourage each other.

Lets see... I don't exercise hardly ever... I eat bad stuff. Lol. I KNOW what I'm doing wrong, I'm lacking the will power to do anything about it. It's getting better. I've lost 6 pounds in the past 2 weeks. First loss I can report in the past 10 months!!! We'll see if I can keep it up.

Hello I mostly browse, but sometimes contribute. I was banded in June 2007 and also seem to have lost my way. I was thinking (oh the pain!) why don't we strugglers have one last ditch attempt to get off as much weight as we can up to our second bandiversery. I am certaining going to try. I have started by having my first fill for 9 months. If you decide to have a go then Good Luck and keep us posted

Ingrid

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
