Gallbladder - Complication of Surgery

Recommended Posts

Just found out that those excruciating pains I've been experiencing on my right side and the debilitating heartburn (what I thought was heartburn) is actually problems with my gallbladder. Anyone else have to have theirs removed as a result of surgery?

I haven't had this (only 9 days out from surgery) but I was told this is common. My surgeon starts us on Actigall two weeks after surgery, for 6 months to try and avoid fall bladder complications.

Sorry you're dealing with this! Good luck!

Must be common. My surgeon removes the gall bladder if you still have it on all of her patients. Mine is already removed.

Yes. I am 10 months out and at 8 months had to have it removed. In and out same day for surgery but another co pay of 4,000 bucks. Arggggg....

I lost a lot of weight a couple years after I had my daughter taking phentramine pills, the weight came off quickly then I got pains and had to get hall bladder removed.

During support prior to this surgery they mentioned gall bladder issues but I ignored it due to not having one. You may want to check with dr about it

Yes.

Even thought they gave me Urso after my WLS. Three years later; horrid pain and the gallbladder had to come out.

I had my gallbladder removed the same time as I was sleeved. Everything went well..

Same here. my surgeon removes the gall bladder if you already have evidence of stones. Otherwise, he prescribes bile salts for 6 months.

Is there anyone who never took medication for gallbladder post-surgery, and has also had no problems since?

I'm having to get mine taken out in two weeks- I was told mine is full of sludge. Hoping that I won't have any additional hiccups as I'm still not at my weight goal.

I spoke to my surgeon about this pre-surgery. Both my mom and my sister had to have theirs out, and they weren't overweight. He said he would look at it during surgery, and if it looked ok he would leave it in. Well, it looked ok, so he left it in, but he did prescribe the medicine that would prevent gallstones for six months. I've only been two months out from surgery, and have had no problems, so I think I'll be fine. Still....I wonder if that will always be the case.

Some years ago I was told I had some tiny gallstones but nothing terrible. That was before I was sleeved. Can you describe what the pain is like from gallstones? I have started to wonder recently if I am having gallstone attacks.

Good luck! Scheduling my surgery today. Looks like it will be right away.

It took about 3-4 months before my problems started to manifest. Here's hoping things stay on the up and up!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
