Any 2014 June Sleevers

Recommended Posts

Well I had my surgery yesterday, my surgeon said it went perfectly. I'm still in the hospital, not sure if I can go home today or not though cause I'm so nauseous. The pain isn't too terrible but every time I try to sip Water I feel like I'm going to throw up. Not trying to scare anyone, just thought I should share. Let's just hope it goes away soon so I can look at the positives!

Mine was 2 days ago. My doc kept me another night because of the same thing. I was feeling nauseous too. I have to go home with oxygen because they noticed I wasn't getting enough at night. I'm kind of bummed about that but it is much needed apparently. Heading home in a few hours.

I had my surgery Tuesday morning. I also had problems with nausea from the anesthesia. I came home yesterday afternoon. The pain from the actual surgery is very tolerable. The gas pains not so much. When I lay down to sleep they come in waves about every 45 seconds. Instead of taking the narcotics, I found that taking one gasx and then walking around for about 5 minutes does the trick. I did this three times last night and I slept pretty well. During the day I have been walking as much as possible. I hope everyone getting ready for surgery is not too scared. It really is not bad and just think about how your life is about to change ????

The ladies above me who has their surgeries a few days ago and had all the nausea, I felt like I was the only one. My Dr has also decided to keep me another day because I was vomiting blood quite a bit yesterday. He said that was normal. & today I am still extremely nauseous. One of you mentioned taking a sip of Water & feeling like your going to throw up! I had the same experience. & it was the smallest, tiniest sip. I haven't been able to take my oral medication & my Dr says I need to be able to so that before I can be discharged. I have noticed that I have become extremely sensitive to the smell of most foods. I kicked my mom out of the room when she brought in take out! But anyway, I hope you ladies feel better & all the rest of you June Sleevers. Remember this is just MY experience as of 1 day post op.

Just got home today. Surgery went well, but had a hard time with liquids. Every time I drank either Water or Gatorade, I would cough up saliva or cough bad enough that I would spit up the Gatorade. Once the surgeon switched me to puréed foods, I did much better. Cough is still there some but not spitting up. It was so bad at one point, I regretted doing the surgery. I was in so much pain from the cough and thinking you can never be able to hold stuff down...it was scary. Hindsight is that I was exhausted. Had no sleep in the hospital. I would finally get a good nap in and some one would wake you up for vitals or I had a lab draw at 3am. I was so upset because I desperately needed sleep. Home so far has been good. Been eating small bits and able to drink (very slowly) a whole bottle of Vitamin Water zero. Pain still an issue at one site but manageable with meds. Here's hoping to successful post op recovery!

Good luck to those having surgery this week! You'll do great!

Hello All,

My first post, and I am happy to say that my surgery has been scheduled for June 23rd and I start my 2 week liquid diet tomorrow. Yikes...I have been on the 6 month supervised diet and I am happy to say that I have lost 50 lbs. It made me question wether or not I should have this surgery. I had to remind myself I have lost weight before but put every pound back on plus more. This time it is for real. My birthday was June 2nd and I ended up in the ER that night. I found out I had gallstones and that I needed to have my gallbladder out. I called my Dr office the next day and asked if I was approved for surgery yet and if so can I have my gallbladder out at the same time. Funny enough they got the approval for the surgery the same day! Wow...timing is everything right??? Well so now I am running around getting all my approvals to have my gallbladder out too. I am so nervous and super excited for this life change, but the next two weeks I think will be the toughest. I have been very good with changing my eating habits over the last 6 months and I feel more confident than ever to be able to do the liquid diet, but this weekend I started wondering what will I never eat again. I wanted to make sure I had all the foods I won't be able to eat after surgery. Man I made myself so sick. It was an eye opener. I don't want to feel like that anymore so why am I forcing food down my throat. I just needed to share my thoughts with people that understand. My husband doesn't understand the food cravings, or the emotions attached to food, but he is my biggest cheerleader and is the most supportive person in my life.

Hello everyone!

I came home Friday from the hospital, sleeved! Here are a few things I've noticed. First, it was super hard for me to drink liquids I think it had to do with the funky taste in my mouth. But, thank goodness for ice chips. I've also noticed that things are much sweeter than before surgery, ex. SF Popsicles. . I do not feel any hunger. I have to set timers to remind me to eat. I'm still in the liquid stage, it's going ok, have to eat slow or it does hurt, at least me it does. Things are moving along fine, haven't taken pain meds except at night. Starting to mix in Vitamins in my food. I also noticed with the I.v. I did gain Water weight. I noticed today I'm back where I was before I went in. Looking forward to this journey!

According to the class I took smoking increases your risk of blood clots (dvt). The surgery already puts you at a risk. Goggle deep vein thrombosis

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
