Rapd Weight Loss During Liquid Diet Safe?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone.

This morning begins Day 7 of my Pre op liquid diet and I've already lost 11 lbs! While I am happy about this, I'm also concerned. Is this too much loss to soon? At this rate, by the 30th, I'll have lost around 25 lbs. I'm worried this might be affecting my immune system and I DO NOT want to get sick and have my surgery postponed! I also don't want to send my already precarious gallbladder into fits. I'm getting it removed along with getting sleeved, but I'm nervous it's not going to last another 8 days! No pain yet, but just keeping my fingers crossed that it holds out.

I lost 19 pounds in two weeks. Don't worry, that is exactly what is supposed to happen.

I think people usually lose quite quickly at the beginning. I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's probably mostly you getting rid of food that was already in your system, plus shedding Water weight. Just make sure you get in your Protein so you don't lose too much muscle!

As the reply above said. The big weight loss is exactly what was supposed to happen. One of the most important preparations for sleeve surgery is losing the fat in your liver. The liver has to be lifted out of the way when having sleeve surgery and if the liver is fatty it is easily damaged. Fat in the liver causes it to be hard and brittle. When it is lean, it is soft and pliable.

There are alot of stories out there about surgeries being cancelled after the surgeon inserted the camera and saw the liver was not lean enough.

Just follow the surgeons directions. Be sure you are getting the recommended Water, Protein and Vitamins and your body should stay plenty healthy.

Also you probably wont lose as much the second week due to you have probably already lost most of the excess Water weight.

It's a medically-supervised "crash" diet... It is NOT a sustainable weight-loss option. :) having said that, I lost 40 lbs in my first 30 days (pre-surgery diet and 2+ weeks post-surgery). Then I halted for a week as I reintroduced food :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
