BLAH! I received a letter from my insurance company. They require more proof of what I have tried to loose weight. A part of me feels like this is a hit to get me down, and a part of me feels like I need to fight for this. I have to prove to them..... Wouldn't you want me to be healthier by doing the surgery and losing the weight? Jeeeeezzzzz!

Has anyone else had to go thru this? Anything to keep me positive to get to my surgery (5/14) would be helpful!

Hi there, don't get discouraged -- just one more hurdle in a series, right? Does the data need to come from you or from the surgeon? They may be all over this already; could be a formality. Maybe you were copied on a letter that went to them and they are responding -- I'd check on that. And meanwhile easy to compile a list of failed attempts if needed. Evidence of dieting and exercise programs that resulted in gaining even more weight, that sort of thing. Co-morbidities may play a role: high BP, sleep apnea, diabetes.......

I have been back and forth with insurance company. Was initially told should be 1-2 weeks, but they keep asking for more and more information (which my surgeon says has never been requested before). I went ahead and started my pre-op diet so when they give the approval, then I could proceed with surgery. I am on now 4 weeks of liquids/shakes, etc. just ready to get this behind me and start my new life!!! I have spoken with the insurance company several times and believe me they don't get in any hurry!!!
