Re: syntax nectar.

I also buy the sample variety packs. Mix with a few drops of liquid stevia or a tablespoon- ish of real lemon and also add seltzer Water. Over crushed ice.

My favorite summertime drink.

I'm pretty new here and haven't written much, but the mean spirited tone of some of the recent posts is really disappointing. We've all seen this type of behavior before, but it's usually from a bully on the playground, not on a website created solely to support and educate others navigating the WLS maze.

It's not even your ignorance or "opinions" that I find offensive. It's your apparent complete lack of empathy and insight into the human condition that concern me. And hey mean girls, trust me when I say we've all had quite enough "tough love" in the past and are no longer in need of it at this point in our lives. My Mom is no longer with us and you're not really a suitable replacement.

I think most of us were hopeful that bariatric pal would be a safe haven from wannabe pseudo condescending junior WLS experts, but it seems that's not likely. Having said that, there will always be those special someone's who seem to take joy from making others feel less than. Maybe there should be a special "troll" edition of BP just for them? Can I get a witness?

Crikey, I think we've found another me - judging by that first sentence!

Ninan, welcome. Come and have a cup of tea with me any time you like, love.

Be assured, however, I'm no junior WLS expert. I don't think i ever will be, either.

I am, however, a condescending mo-fo when I want to be.

But do not fear. I do not discriminate. Everyone gets it

Well I was raised by wolves.(symbolically )..and yet I can see that hammering on people who are scared is not the answer either. You get more flies with honey then you do with vinegar.....

I know you were raised in a bad situation and I am so sorry for that..But we have all had it bad when we were obese or how we were raised are even now after we have taken this journey. Life is unfair and those who hurt seem to prosper but it would be nice to find a place where we feel safe...Not to be: get going attitude...Some folks are so tired and this is their last stand. Using all the strength they have to make it...Positive feed back can be a great asset you know! As sometimes tough love does it. It depends on the poster and what is being posted... To have an overall kick the ass attitude: no I don't buy that I don't really think you would either......not really!!!!!

Every website of this nature is going to have it's pros and cons... this is the "FB of the WLS world" to me... I take it all with a grain of salt (some lime and tequila...lol) ... one of the biggest problems with written versus verbal is the "tone"... what may read like someone is blasting you may not have been intended that way.

In my business (customer service) I learned a LONG time ago, not to take it personally... and that's how I feel about this website too... we are all here to learn, share and experience... and we have to agree to disagree sometimes...that's life...

Well anyway, that's my 2 cents worth...

I enjoy the insights here and will continue to enjoy the banter as well ;)

Nailed it! The Bullies (not calling anyone in particular a bully but there are MOST definitly some around) and food Police are powerful in cyberspace. But, there is a lot of good here too. Some have a "unique" way of showing support. I've learned a lot and felt supported more often than not, but lately, there is a bunch of negativity going round. Just because the thought is there, doesn't always mean it needs to be said. Good God there are a billion snarky comments I would post but it's poor character to do so. Bullies like attention. I love sarcasm, and I like clever people. But have a little mercy when some stranger pours their soul out or has concerns that seem small to you. I think people can intelligently and respectfully disagree too. So if you rant about some group/person in particular, be prepared for feedback.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
