My journey so far...

Recommended Posts

Hi, my name is Sue. I was banded almost 6 months ago. During the first few months I felt like I wasn't losing like I saw others doing. I finally realized this was my story and not to compare it with others. I went thru 'bandsters hell' during November and December. I thought to myself - what the heck have I done? Another thing I'm going to fail at. But I kept at it. Got more fills - 6 to be exact. I'm now at 8.8 cc's in my 10 cc band. The last three months I've been losing around 6-8 pounds a month. I've gone from a size 20 to a size 14. I've lost 50 pounds!! I went to my first yoga class today and couldn't believe how well I did. I'm off my high blood pressure meds. My knees don't pop when I walk upstairs. Just so many positives in my life now. post-150701-0-60715400-1397011630_thumb.jpg post-150701-0-58060800-1397011644_thumb.jpg The photos above are my before and current. I hope they show...I'm sending this from an iPad.

We have a lot in common.... I was born in '60 (okay, not exactly '62.... LOL). I was banded 7 months ago (okay, not 6..... LOL). It took me 6 fills to hit the GREEN ( okay, that's in common). I'm losing an average of eight pounds a month too. So, a few things in common. Happy for you!

Your story inspires me this morning! I was banded in November, and really haven't lost anything the last couple of months. I look at the positive- I haven't gained! Which, was my life before band. However, I have had three fills and am going for the next one on 4/25. I have identified some things I MUST do differently. I have been snacking some (not a lot or horrible choices, but still, that just heard the death toll :) I am getting up earlier to do 15 minutes of walking before work (have to be at work very early, so major accomplishment there), and I will do at least 15 minutes at night. My job is sedentary.....I hate that, but what can you do?

I KNOW that between me doing exactly what I know to do and the band, we want fail. I think I have 1 or 2 fills to go before green :) Thank you for your post this morning.....I needed it!

I've been lucky that my doctors office is aggressive on the fills. I was at 5.2 cc's after the first 2 fills. Sometimes it's a day by day thing.

wow my surgeon said he is not aggressive when it comes to fills...gonna take me forever to get green...

It's funny how all surgeons are different. Just yesterday I heard somone say they were told not to drink caffeine. I was never told that......I was told not to drink sodas, but not coffee or tea (unsweet)
I think my band is about half way full right now.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
