Eating at Disney

Recommended Posts

Am headed to Disney on Saturday & looking for some info/advice on eating (post-sleeve) there. So for those of you who have been to Disney since surgery, a few questions:

- Do Disney dining places accept the little surgery card to let you order smaller or kids portions?

-Do they allow sharing of meals, or is it more that you're paying for the experience?

-Any tips or tricks for eating healthy & staying with high Protein, low carb while eating at the parks?

Any tips or advice is welcomed!

I'm really curious about people's responses as I'm heading to Disney in July.

Just went to Disneyland a few weeks ago. You won't need the surgery card because they let you order children's meals regardless of your age. Disney is all about accommodating their guests and they better be for their prices! We ate at the Pinocchio restaurant in Fantasy Land and I had salad. For dinner I split a roast beef entree at Flos Diner in California Adventure with my son. Yes they let you split. Also I'm not sure if you know this, but Disneyland doesn't seem to care if you bring in food. Either that or she just didn't notice because in my backpack I packed Protein Bars, turkey meat sticks, cheese sticks and six Water bottles. She didn't say anything to me. Also did you know that any restaurant/fast food place in Disney will give you free ice water in a cup with lid? After I finished all my bottles of water I was still thirsty so I overheard a man order ice water and from that point on every time I was thirsty I just ordered free ice water. Because with all that walking around you will get thirsty! Have fun!

I'm an annual passholder and you can bring in food and Water. You can also order ala carte from restaurant menus, like just one taco or a side of veggies. Check out the Disney dining web site before you go to review the restaurant menus. Good luck and have fun! You'll get in lots of great walking exercise. I usually log 6 - 7 miles each day.

Yes, have GREAT walking shoes for Disney - you'll need them! Depending on where you go, you can get a la carte items instead of full meals. A lot of the restaurants, especially at the resorts, are more of a cafeteria style and you can just get what you want. The sit down restaurants are like any other restaurant you would go to at home. Make good choices and you'll be fine!

Wow Thank you for all the great information! I didn't realize you were able to take in your own food and Water. Good to know.

I am in my pre-op liquid diet (surgery 4/11)... last week I dined with friends at Steakhouse 55 at the Disneyland Hotel. I asked if I could speak to the Chef. He came to me three times during the evening and was very discreet and accommodating. He was willing to help in any way and served me a wonderful chicken stock Soup, a small salad with the exact ingredients that I had requested, and rounded out the meal with a lovely raspberry yogurt. All served with class and discretion. You can partner with the manager and/or chef at any of the Resort restaurants and they will do thier best to accommodate your dietary needs. I love Disney. Full disclosure I am a Cast Member... but Chef did not know that. The service he provided would have been excellent for anyone. So impressed. Have a great time.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
