Yesterday I went for my weight check, finally met the nurse and went to the required information session. Amazing how sitting in a room of large people is actually quite comforting. I'm a school teacher and had started this process late last year and am now starting over by choice. I have it planned out so that as soon as school is out, I should be able to start the 2 week liquid diet, have surgery, then spend the rest of my summer break recovering/adjusting to my new life. I asked the insurance specialist at my Dr's office today was everyone as obsessive as I am? I have made phone calls and lined every appointment up to a T so that I can complete the pre-requisites within the next 90 days. I feel like I'm rushing but don't think I am. Is it normal to feel like things are going so smoothly it's almost easy to go through this? Maybe it's just what I've needed and know that I can see the light at the end of the tunnel? I'm excited, nervous and anxious all at the same time!

It must be the teacher in you. I'm a teacher too. Initially I was thinking the summer. Then my friends encouraged me not to put it off if it could be done before. They made me realize that I work so hard for my students that it would be okay to take off. My biggest concern was sub plans. I hate them. Never the less, I started this process in January and had my surgery march 31. I'm off this week and spring break is next week.

I teach first grade and I am hoping to get my surgery at the beginning of the summer as well. I have lists and lots of questions but now not feeling as prepared as you. I have my consultation on the 16th and maybe should call to make sure that I have everything lined up since I want to do the surgery as early in the summer as possible. Hopefully I will be getting surgery at the same time as you. :D Glad to hear that I am not the only one obsessing. My husband is getting pretty sick on me talking about it. It is the main thing I think of throughout the day and I wish I could fast forward to my appointment and get the ball rolling. Good luck on all of your appointments!

Oh and here I thought I was the only one that dotted and crossed everything!! I babysit teachers children to have breaks off with my own kids. I have worked appt. down to a science just to get everything down. I have a son graduating June 8 so I am hoping to have it done before. My info gets faxed to insurance April 14 so it's gonna be tight but I think I can do it. Hoping insurance approves very fast!!

I love that there's other people who are as scrupulous (I refuse to call it obsessed!) as I am about paperwork, dates, planning and all of the details! I had been calculating the timeline they gave me and found it wasn't going to work for me to do it during the school year (my work is on the same calendar) and so I pushed and complained and pushed some more, and finally got moved up so it can happen this summer or hopefully spring. That will give me recovery time and some weight loss so that my energy will be starting to get better by fall.

Yes, I deliver as many of those paperwork things as I can in person too, and then call when someone else has to submit to be sure it actually got sent and got received! I was told that's why I'm moving through this with slightly less than glacial speed too, given my HMO. It also meant that I knew right away when something was lost and I had to redo it!

I too hate having to get subs and plan for that - makes me nuts, and I'll have to do that no matter when I have the surgery. People talk about doing it on vacation time so that no one knows too, and I figure if I were having knee surgery, I'd take the sick time - so should be free to do that for this too. So yes, I'll get my sub, take the sick time, and still not feel like i have to tell everyone exactly why! My reason of choice so far is, "My doctor recommends I have gastric surgery to correct a long standing problem."

I think I am just obsessed with surgery as I am with end of grade tests for my kids. Kind of concerned- it's become a second job with me as I read posts, medical articles and follow lots of people on YouTube. Not obsessively, just helping me get through the last 68 days of monitored weight loss! Yes, I have a countdown app on my phone. I feel like a kid at Christmas! Cannot wait to start my new life as a happy, healthy and thin person!

There is no issue with being prepared and active in planning your appointments. I think it is a good thing. No one better to advocate for yourself than you.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
