Constant period, tired, b12 deficiency, cold

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had any drastic changes in their period? Mine has been consistent and I think it's all related somehow to weight loss and nutrition possibly!

I've had an ultrasound, blood tests and I am anemic and lacking B12 so now getting B12 shots. I'm also in the process of getting additional tests but thought if ask if anyone else is experiencing similar symptoms?

- tired

- cold

- weak

- dizzy when standing quickly

- b12 deficiency

- constant bleeding, light periods

- heavy bleeding post exercise and running

- all other Vitamins ok

Bella, your symptoms are pretty alarming. What does your dr say? Constant period is not normal at all.

I had my surgery on 3/10 and have been on a heavy period for two weeks. And I am on the Nuva ring. Hoping it ends soon

My doctor says the cold is from 2 things, you are losing weight, and losing your "insulation" and you are taking in fewer calories, calories turn into energy and energy creates heat. I am almost 1 year post-op and I'm finally not taking a sweater everywhere I go, and I live in Florida. So the cold is normal, and the dizziness upon standing could be low blood sugar, or if you are taking blood pressure meds, you might need them adjusted, if not, you may just have low blood pressure now that you are losing weight and eating less. I would pick up a cheap blood sugar kit and monitor your sugar level when you get dizzy. I hope you have called your surgeon or pcp to get in for a followup. Some of the symptoms you are describing are normal, but the fact that you are having so many symptoms is worrisome. Please take care of yourself.

Bella, I am having the EXACT same symptoms.

I have lost about 50 lbs, have had a period every two weeks with some spotting in between, ALWAYS cold, and have had two hypoglycemic episodes in a month.

I went back to my GYN and she said that she didn't think it had anything to do with my weight loss... I'm no doctor, but i am a Registered Nurse and my thought process was this: Estrogen is stored in excess fat, we lost weight rapidly, the fat is metabolized and where does all that estrogen go? In my blood stream which causes menstrual changes?

I go back to have blood work drawn in a few weeks... my surgeon wasn't interested in checking my Vitamin levels until I was six months out....

Glad I'm not alone, I was beginning to think I was losing more than just the weight...

I researched and thought the excessive estrogen May be a factor too!!

My B12 was super low, like I think less than 100 when it's supposed to be 400 or something...I'm not too technical clearly lol

I've had so many tests with more today actually including blood tests, Pap smears, ultrasounds and now off to see a gynecologist however I think once I stabilize and stop losing weight it will probably go back to normal - fingers crossed!

I've had a lot of time off work I mean sometimes I'm just so exhausted and down I sleep all day... Like I need to recharge or something :-/

I had a period for the two weeks of my pre-op diet, had my surgery, and then two weeks later had a period that lasted over 8 weeks. I went to the surgeon and obgyn and they couldn't identify why I was so weak, tired, and had a period that was excessive. My Obgyn put me on birth control (generess fe) 3 pills for 3 days, 2 pills for 2 days, 1 pill for a month and a half straight. After all of that, my bleeding still required a tampon as of three weeks ago.

I totally get what you're going through. My hypothyroidism is a bit worse and they dramatically increased my dosage from when I took it a few years ago and started taking it again just last week. They didn't test my B12 and said they would at my 6 month appointment.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
