Not at 4 days, but by 7 I finally did. I'm not having any problems fining though. Today I had 8 oz skim milk and a scoop of Unjury chocolate splendor (heated it up like cocoa, that's over 29 g), a Greek yogurt, split in 2 sessions (12 g), Tomato Soup made with milk (1 cup total for 5 g), and another "cocoa". My total is 75 grams Protein, 517 calories through dinner. Yesterday I had a Premier Protein shake for Breakfast. Took an hour to drink the 11 oz but it was 30 G protein right there. Hope that helps.

I'm wondering if while I'm on liquid I can melt the yellow of the egg in water(with salt) . It should be some delicious Protein for a change.

Will I be violating the rules in the book? I'm committed to keep the rules!

Melting hard cooked egg yolk is as easy as melting hard cooked egg yolk.. It dilutes in Water.

But, you are right, I didn't know it. The white carries the Protein.

My doctor recommends two Protein Shakes daily. I'm 4 days post op. Is anyone getting all their Protein in the first week?

I'm almost four weeks out and I still can't come close on my protein. I think I've been keeping my calorie count too low 200-400 My energy has been ok until last night I hit a wall and felt so weak. We are on the last leg of a two week road trip and I will be seeing my nutritionist on Wednesday. Every kind of Protein Powder or shake I've tried goes right through me. Any suggestions on getting through these days until Wednesday?

I have not been able to tolerate the Protein Drinks they make me vomit and I refused to even try with them after the first week of being sick everytime I tried them. My dietician has given me the all clear to start trying minced beef, turkey and chicken in order to get Protein in and its going great. I am having a poached egg for breakfast, Soup or a little deli ham for lunch (just chew really really well) and a little minced beef or chicken in gravy with a tiny bit of potato for my evening meal, I am having half a banana for a snack and I feel so much better. Check with your surgeon or dietician before jumping ahead to eating soft foods as some surgeons want you to stay on fluids or pureed food longer than others.

Adavis77,

I never used dosing cups. I have a cheap Water bottle that has it marked at every 5 oz and I just eyeballed it. Just took a sip every time I thought of it. With my warm Protein drink I put it in an insulated steel cup so it stayed warm the whole hour it took me to drink it. I tried that one cold and couldn't get it down. With the lid on the cup it kept me from having to smell the whey haha! The cold Premier Protein, I just shake and pour a few ounces at a time and put the rest back so I can sip.

My suggestion is try several different types of Protein. Premier Protein gave me severe diarrhea the first several times I tried it. All of a sudden on time #4 I had no issues. The Unjury I can't handle cold, makes me feel gross and smells gross too. Once I tried heated with milk (the extra calories and 8 g extra protein are much needed now)and put it in a coffee cup with a lid, I loved it. Also added a splash of sugar free coffee Syrup for variation. Experiment until you can tolerate something. If you can eat yogurt, go for a Greek yogurt at 12 G protein.

I am 3 days post op and worried about not getting enough of my Protein. I do well getting it blended with Greek Yogurt or fruit/veggies but that's at least 1 week away until I can have drinkable yogurt. The shakes and bullets I can not physically keep down. I'm most worried about losing my hair because I can't get it all in. I am staying hydrated and walking but that is a focus all on its own.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
