Period during surgery, please help!

Recommended Posts

Thought it would be gone by tomorrow but I don't think so. What am I supposed to do? I'm afraid I'm going to wake up in a mess because there are times I have to change tampon twice an hour.

Do they let you use a tampon or do you have to use pads?

Am i going to be able to change them after? Or will I be too sore and out if it?

THIS SUCKS!!!!!!

I didn't have this going on, but I would use a large, overnight pad, let the nurses know ajead of time, and they can help change you after if needed. That's what nurses do, or if your married, your husband just may have ot help as well. I could have changed my own if it wasn't for the phenergan and morphine I was on :P

I didn't have this happen to me, but tell them, or call them in advance and ask them. They are well prepared for anything. I know they can handle this with no problems.

Best of luck with your surgery!

I was on my period during surgery. I was required to take everything off. No pads or tampons during surgery. You lay on that blue puppy training pad thingy. You wake up with hospital panties and a pad on.

They are medical professionals. They've dealt with menstruation a lot. it's a big deal to you, a no brainier to them

I am hoping that mine will be over by my surgery as well, but I did ask in anticipation. Same answer as vogue- you simply lay on a leak proof pad and then they will put underwear and a pad on you before you even wake up.

Yes, medical professionals tend to dislike tampons-- bc well, who wants to change someone else's tampon?? lol

Oh so gross.

You are hilarious!!!

It happened to me too. You might care now, but you won't when you're in there. It doesn't phase them because they see it all the time, and given the amount of medication you'll be on, they could practically give you a bedside enema and you'd not care/forget... It's the hospital. They have a "we won't tell, you won't remember" policy. It'll be okay. Trust me.

;)

Id rather deal with a tampon than wipe someone's butt and vagina that is covered in blood!

I had hiatal hernia surgery last fall and the hospital provided me with a pad to wear along with disposable undies. It really depends on your hospital's procedures. My guess is no tampon, but that's just a guess. You may not bleed as much as usual because your body acts differently while in surgery and under anesthesia.

You can't wear anything the day of surgery. I expressed my concerns for if I had a period when going in for surgery and he said the day after I could use a tampon if I wanted. Thank god I had no period, and haven't had one since. Woo!

But honestly. The first time I peed when I got to my room, the nurse tech had to wipe for me, because I couldn't bend to reach. There isn't any humility in a hospital. Nurses and techs have seen it all. Seriously. (I'm going to school for nursing)

I had my surgery on March 6th and started my period that morning. I told the nurse and she had me wear a pad and special panties they gave me. When you check in and are doing your prep work tell the nurse. She/he will tell you what to do.

I had my surgery yesterday and my cycle was on. They just had me keep a pad in between my legs. I was able to put mesh panties on afterwards.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
