What do you think - body image?

Recommended Posts

I am at my 60 pound loss now (banded 9/13/13). I did not exercise before my surgery, I was sedentary and I have a desk job. After I was cleared for exercise from my doctor, I have been working my way up with my exercise. I work out about 3 days a week at the gym and I walk alot more now.

The body image part - I seem to be losing weight in my legs, thighs and butt area quicker than my stomach. I carried alot of weight in my stomach. I know that we have discussed this on different threads before, but what do you think of your body after losing weight?

What I think about my body:

My mind has not caught up with my body, and I still feel like that fat girl. I don't know if its because the weight loss is quicker than with the regular dieting, but I still go towards the plus size, even though now I can wear a 14 pants. I still kind of forget that I don't have to go into the plus size.

I'm happy, don't get me wrong. Everyone is telling me that I look great, and I feel ok. I just don't feel thinner.

Maybe its just me ...

My Winnie-the-Pooh belly has gone down considerably but I've still got a pouch there. When I stand sideways in front of the mirror sometimes I push it in to see what that profile will look like if I keep working out as much as I can and continue to make excellent choices. But it's so much better than it was -- the spare tire. People gain in different ways and I definitely am a belly fat body type. I think my favorite part is the throat and chest, the collarbones, feeling more definition there. I've always thought my upper arms were fat, even when that wasn't possible. Now I've lost three inches on each arm -- amazing. Cannot even fathom that! I think measuring is really good, that and jean sizes, for letting me know what is real. Trying on clothes over the weekend that's what I felt like, "it's real, my weight loss is real, the clothes are smaller and they fit!"

Unfortunately the stomach is the last to go. As long as I can hide it with clothes then I am fine with it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
