May 2007 Banders

Great Job! 10 pounds in a month is perfect. I am so jealous that you can hold off on weighing until once a month. I weigh in at least once a day...sometimes more and it drives me nuts.

I know what you mean about getting below the 185....thats where I am now and I could always get here, just not stay here. One time I got to about 170 and that is the lowest I have been in 15 years. Once I get past that it will feel real but for now it has the "I have done this before feeling" and I get scared that it will all come back like it has before. I guess with the band it will be different. I hope that I can get thin and stay there. The thought of being at goal is so exciting, it just seems so far away!

I love my band!

I've also found that the days I eat about 1200 calories are when I lose the next day. If I go below 1000 calories I can't move the scale. If I go above 1500 calories I can't move it either. The days I exercise hard I usually see the scale move the next day. I have trouble just eating 3 meals a day. I usually eat 5 small meals and try to eat some Protein with every meal. I've had three pbing episodes since the surgery. I think I have the right fill for right now. It's exciting to try on clothes and have them hang off of me. I've gone done 2-3 sizes. It really hasn't been hard. Best thing I've ever done for myself. I'm almost starting to believe that I can really be thin again. I had almost given up on it after so many diets and so many years. I'm in my 50's and am feeling optimistic for the first time in a long time.

Surgery in Mexico by Dr Ortiz on the 25th of May

1st fill 1.6 cc July 6

2nd fill 0.4 cc Aug 15

Total 2 cc in a 4 cc band

As I read your post I had to keep looking to see who wrote it...I thougth it was ME! I can SOOOO relate. Sounds like our metabolism set points are teh same. I react the same to exercise. I too need to eat 5 small meals...3 just leaves me too hungry and I start to feel deprived and depressed. i haven't PB's yet...really close once, and I'm feeling my fill is pretty good right now. I'm down 2-3 sizes and was just telling myself out lound this morning "this is the best thing you've ever done for yourself!" After giving up, I now have a great deal of HOPE, even beyond hope, I have dreams and expectations!

Metalband,

I love my band too! We will get there, we will reach goal. I have 51 pds to go by next May. I really would like to loose it by then. But, ya know what. If it takes me two years...so what. I feel so much better already. I have had three people ask me if I am losing weight today. Funny, I have lost 36 pds and they want to know if I have lost weight! Just goes to show that we are harder on ourselfs then other people. But, really, how could they have missed that double chin! (Which I am happy to say was one of the first things to go). One girl said, your getting so skinny I can hardly see you walking up the hall. Here I am at 195 and I am starting to see myself as skinny. That is so funny! Metalband...how tall are you and what is your goal weight? I know youve shared before but it will be easier for you to tell me again! I did notice there is allot of us 40 or 50 somethings in this group. Either we all gained weight later in life of we finally realized we couldn't do it alone. Never the less, just glad to be part of this band of sisters!

Sue! We are moving along side by side on the weight loss!

Blessings!

I am only 5'1" tall. Until I was 25.....I weighed under 100 lbs! When I was pregnant my doc yelled at me because I gained.....I was 113 and pregnant! I told him that I just quit smoking, went through the holidays and got pregnant, cut me some slack!!! Now I wish I listened to him. I did not think it would be the last time I saw 113!

I set my goal to 120...that was where I got back to after my son was born. I will be happy at 130 but 120 would be great!

Tom,

oops my bad! So glad to have a brother amongst us. Now, tell me all the secrets about men! Teasing. How much do you weigh and how much do you want to lose. (if ya don't mind sharing).

Maureen (love your name, same as my mom's), wow, you were a tiny little thing. I think that 120 sounds like a perfect goal. My sister is 5"3 and weighs 135 and looks fantastic. She wears like a 4. I could never be a four. I am to curvy. I want my old measurements back...36,26,36. (I can't imagine that ever being possible)! That will put me in a 9/10. I don't like to be thinner than that. It takes the youth right out of my face.....if I do. These forties are hard on the skin!

Well, you guys and gals have a beautiful fantastic day!

Blessings, Weazer

It's been so quiet on here!!! Where is everyone????

I bought a pair of size 16 dress pants 2 years ago from LB... never wore them... I had just lost a good amount of weight and tried on the 18's and they were too big.. so in a rush I just grabbed the 16's and bought them without trying them on..got them home and they were too tight.. so they've sat in my closet since them. I tried them on a couple days ago and I can get them up, zipped and buttoned.. but they're still a little too tight to wear out. I have now made those pants my October goal.

Melissa,

Nice work on your Size 16 NSV. It will happen before you know it! And ya, where has everyone been? The volume has been down!! Usually I get lots to read to catch up on, but not so much lately. It must mean everyone's doing so awesome!! Hello everyone!

Well since I'm on a roll, I'd like to share an NSV. I was so excited. Sunday a friend and I went to the outlets. I decided to buy two pairs of Size 12 jeans at Eddie Bauer to look forward to (I'm doing the 14 now). Well, for the heck of it, I tried them on later that night when I got home to see how bad they'd be, how far I could pull them up, etc. I CAN WEAR THEM. Oh ya, the muffin top is there but I was so excited. If I feel the urge to wear them, I can wear a loose top! It's funny though. It's taking longer to go down in top sizes. You would think the weight loss would be distributed. I don't think I look lopsided, but maybe so.

Looks like there have been a lot of NSV's lately! I am jealous. Not only have I not had a scale victory in two weeks, thats right not one pound, but I also havent had any NSV's.

I am ready for things to get moving again this sucks! I go in today to TRY to get another fill. Their flouro machine was down last week so I hope they have it working now.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
