May 2007 Banders

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Today I got my first fill, I found out that I have a 10cc band and he filled it to 5.8cc. Do you think that is too much for a fist fill??? I have a friend who had it done 2yrs ago and she can not believe how tight he made it. I am thinking that maybe things changed since she had hers. What do you think??? It a little sore in my chest but its not too bad. Please let me know what you think. THANKS A MILLION :)

I don't think that's 2 much because you have a bigger band

You guys are amazing!! What weight loss! I agree about not weighing every day, to much. Try to contain it to a week, because your body changes and may frustrate you when you really did not gain.

It is interesting reading the May and June thread to see the stages we go through! Tomorrow is my day!!!!!!!I am a little bit nervous, but very excited. I will be praying for a smooth ride!

METALBAND,

Are you still on liquids? You poor thing! How long does your doc have you on liquids?

I am on them until the 11th.....3 weeks but I go to the nutritionist tomorrow. Hopefully they will put me on mushies!

Wow, three weeks, huh? I still think it's interesting how surgeons are all so different. I guess there is no "standard practice". I was banded on 5-21 (just like you)! The first week was liquids, second week pureed/mushies, this week "soft" foods (oatmeal, egg salad, tuna, etc.), and week four is regular diet.

I was on a 2 week liquid pre-op diet. You? Three weeks of liquids was tough. I can't imagine any longer than that. I admire you.

When do you go in for your first fill? Mine is scheduled for June 28, although doctor has told me if I continue to lose weight he will not fill me. I guess if it's not needed, it's not needed. I lost 15 pounds pre-op and another 10 since surgery for a total of 25. (Although I came home from the hospital weighing 10 pounds more than when I went in! So, actually 20 since surgery but 10 of it was just swelling and IV fluids, so I'm not counting that.) But, like others have said, I'm sure I'll plateau soon and the scale will stop.

Thanks but do not give me too much credit.....I had pureed some eggs yesterday and had broccoli Soup today!!! Pre op diet was 2 shakes per day and one small meal. I only lost 7lbs pre op. If I was losing the way you are, I would not get a fill. You are doing great!!! Keep up the good work!!

I say eat at almost the same times everyday. That way you can get your body use to a schedule and hoefully like me I usually only start to get hungry when my time to eat.

Don't worry we are all diffrent. Keep going it's coming. Some might say I've become obssesive but not me I defiently look at the surgery as an investment. I was self-pay so I didn't invest 14,000 dollars for this not to work:)

And it O.k that you did that we have to get our bodies use to the next stage before actually go full blown. I don't think you did anything wrong.:rolleyes

Thanks. I can't wait to go to the doc. I don't want to be a downer but I am still having lots of port pain, when I move certain ways it feels like its ripping out!! I hope he does not have to reposition it!! Other than that I feel great but I still cannot laugh, sneeze or bend over.....it getting old.

So to not be a downer.....thanks for all the support. You are all great!! I love this site!!!! It is alway better to end on a high note!!!

Me, too. Although most of the day I feel OK, bedtime is a nightmare! It hurts like he11 to turn over in the night! Even when I'm laying completely still it feels like it is pulling/tugging/ripping. There have only been a handful of nights I have made it a complete night in the bed. After an hour or two, I usually end up back in the recliner for the remainder of the night. It's getting frustrating. I want to be able to sleep in my bed, with my husband. I agree. It's getting old.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
