I hear ya crabcake, when I had my cardiac ablation, I was on the table for almost four hours and I was CRYING the pain was so bad deep inside my back. I just wanted to get up and I couldn't. I had to lay flat for another four hours. They were loading me up with Fentanyl and morphine and every other kind of fun thing they could give me. It was awful! I hope this isn't that bad!

I'm on BCP because of a cyst--I didn't have to stop taking them and I asked repreatedly. I was given Lovenox in the hospital so I guess they weren't worried. Also, the night of my surgery--the nurse brought in a nice fluffy leather recliner and told me if I was comfortable in it I could sleep in it! the first night I didn't, but the second night I did! I guess each doctor is different!

I was wondering--what has everyone's post-op diet been? My doctor is clears for 2 weeks, but I've read that some are already on full liquids in week 2?

THANKS for the well wishes, too!

Amy

See now, that's what I'm thinking, if they're going to give me thinners, then why do I have to stop my pill? Seems kind of odd to me.

I am on clears for the day after OR then I can have full liquids (meaning that they cannot have any chunks in them, and they must be pourable) for two weeks. Then mushies, then soft, then solids at 6 weeks out.

I guess I got lucky to only have to do liquids for 2 dys only.

Two weeks of clears post op does seem a bit harsh.. I know each doc is different... Maybe you won't want anything other than clears...

I initially thought my doc said 2 weeks clear pre op, 2 weeks clear post op, followed by 2 weeks fulls, then mushies.. BUT when I cleared it up.. This is what my diet is:

6 days pre-op full liquids (including yogurt, pudding, and ALL soups)

1 day pre-op Clear Liquids

2 days post op clear liquids

12 days post op full liquids

then 1 week mushies, then real food

(No wonder everyone loses soo much wait right after surgery :-)

My surgeon was a big GB surgeon--all of his pre-op classes were basically for GBS and all of his post-op instructions were GBS, etc. I am thinking that because the stomach AND the small intestines have to heal surgically from being cut that he requests still 2 weeks of clears--I don't think I'm going to make it! I'm wondering if around 9-10days if switching over to full liquids lke Protein Shakes would be ok and if they would keep my full.

I went for my pre-op testing yesterday and today to my nutrition and nursing class.

They told us NO RECLINERS to sleep in!!!! Apparently there is data about blood clot formation and that position for sleeping? I guess I've got me a data search to do.

I also was told I have to stop my BCP and I cannot start them again for 6 weeks after surgery. GRRRRRrrr!!!! Not like I'm having sex anyway, but still. I take them to keep my period under control. I asked the Pre-op clearance doc if I could give him my three week period. Cause that's what I'll have once I go off these bad boys.

I would normally balk at these things, and I'd be pulling up study after study to show them they are off base on making me stop, or I'd just keep taking them and not say anything. But I have the worst luck, and knowing me, I'd end up with the PE (pulmonary embolus) and die. Pffffft! So I'm actually going to toe the line on this. And that's not like me at all!

I wonder why they said that because when I was waiting in recovery that's what they had me sitting in. And right now I've been sleeping in my lounge chair since I came home from the hospital. I hate but it's the only comfortable place for me right now. Because sleeping in the bed is unbearable

I think that's exactly the problem with the instructions from some surgeons out there, it's geared to RNY patients and not us bandsters.

We are not at all the same creature and it makes me crazy when they try to treat us like we are.

Though I do understand the slower progression in the diet for us because we DO NOT want to have the stomach moving and twisting around in there trying to digest, that will put us at a high risk for slippage. The stomach has to form scar tissue around the band in the back of the stomach where it can't be sutured, and everytime the stomach contracts trying to digest something solid that is one less chance for it to heal. RNY patients have totally new stomachs and have no need to form scar tissue to hold anything in place, their new system is sutured together. Granted they don't want to stress it too much and develop a leak, but they don't have to rely on scars to seat the band. And that takes a lot longer than a couple of days.

That makes since to me because I think GBS is totally diffrent from what we have. So I'm thinking if you last that long Good but for me the hunger feeling is horrible so some protien shakes will defiently be a good idea. I don't know I guess you have to follow Dr.s order

I agree with what you are saying. It's the truth

no, i doubt that it is. i'm just a big baby when it comes to pain. but i haven't gotten to the crying stage yet. however, if it continues, i'll truly be getting crabby (and i do it so well! ask the DH!)...:heh:

Hi everyone this is my first time on here but my date is May 18th in Monterrey, Mx. I had to laugh at the bad dream entry because so am I. The last two nights I have dreamed that I have been embarrasingly drunk. In the first dream I went to work drunk with my pajamas on and stinking of liquer. I don't even drink. The dreams are really freaking me out. This is very stressful. I'm doing this on my own with hardly anyone knowing.

Hi everyone! I am glad to report I am finally on the mend...I guess we need to change my official band date to May 7th as I had to be re-banded. I had a very freak thing happen and I don't want to go into details as it might be scary to some. Let's just sum it all up by saying, I am truly ellated that I am on the banded side and the beginning of a wonderful journey!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
