wow! you guys are a posting machine! I am off the thread for one day and had to take 20 minutes to catch up.

Good news! Things are moving (slightly) in the lower regions of my bowels. The nutritionist said take some milk of magnesia to get things moving and take colace (stool softner) for after surgery. she said you will not want any straining with your stitches. she said the anethesia can be very constipating. Who knew!!

My doctor gave me a scare today when he asked if i wanted to move up my surgery one week. Ack! I decided no because it is my twins 13th birthday, mothers day, and we are supposed to be going out for a thank-you dinner on Friday. (I know . . clear soup) I already cleared my schedule for next week so I decided to stick with the 17th. They also put somebody elses ultra sound results in my folder. My doctor told me i had severe fatty liver with cirrosis. I told him I didn't even drink so I thought he was wrong. After I asked him about a million questions he finally checked the name at the top of the page and it was someone else. Whew!

Welcome LisaM to the 17th. It's a great day to be banded!

Good luck everyone on surgery tomorrow! Godspeed to all of you!

Day five went off without a hitch. Still hangin in there with the liquid stuff. . . . . icky

Woohoo! Congratulations everyone on joining BANDland.

I'm being banded TOMORROW! :faint: I think the receptionist at the surgeon's office was right... it's exciting until you get to the day before surgery and then the scariness kicks in. :omg:

Wenjea - I am Macysgranny's niece and she is doing much better - they re-did her surgery yesterday and kept her overnight for observation. She has been in the hospital since Friday morning at 6:15 AM - if all goes well with the upper GI today - she will be coming to my house for a couple days. I am sure she will log on to share her story. Thanks for the prayers!

Give her my best and I hope she isn't to discouraged. I can't wait to hear what happened . . . the whole story, when she is up to it. With that long in the hospital I hope she isn't a self pay! Give her a hug from me!

You won't need it, but good luck tomorrow!

I agree, and have sensed all along, no matter how excited I am (and I am REALLY EXCITED!), the night before I'll be lucky to sleep a wink. Guess I'll have an hours rest the next morning. :notagree

On day 10 of the diet and holding up nicely. I don't want to do anything to put a damper on the procedure. Saturday I'll be going on an excursion with female family members which will include lunch at a Mexican restaurant. I think I'll just take along a Protein Drink and try not to stare at their food! I'm just going to skip the annual Mother's Day brunch at a great restaurant by the river. That will be the day before surgery and I think it would not only be uncomfortable for me, but for the others also. I can go again next year. ;)

They haven't called yet to give me a time for surgery. I guess they leave it loose in case of last minute changes.

Okay that's all for now. Thanks to everyone for taking the time before and after surgery to keep us all informed on how you are doing. It's a huge help!

Thanks so much. They haven't called to tell me my surgery time yet either and that just adds to the nervousness...

Oh, and btw.. they put me on a 48 hour liquid laxative regimen ( bleah!! ) does anyone have any tips on how to get that gross stuff down without gagging?

I have a question for my fellow May Bandsters....

... I had a dream... more like a nightmare last night - I was banded..ate something and started vomiting VIOLENTLY... This dream was very strange to me for 2 reasons... 1) I never vomit, even when ill... maybe once in the past 5 years.. and 2) I don't feel the least bit nervous about my upcoming date.

Have you had similar dreams? Do you think it may be some sort of subconscious anxiety?

Maybe you read about someone vomiting after being banded? I was getting a bit nauseous in the recovery room and they put something in my iv that took it away instantly.....

Just checking in! I had my surgery May 3 so this is already day 6 post op . I got to add applesauce and smoothies and bananas to my 'diet' yesterday. I havent had any real problem with hunger. I try to take in small 2 oz portions of approved 'food/drinks' every 15 to 30 minutes. I also have a few oz of protien drink when I wake up during the night so I dont wake up famished in the morning.

I passed a lot of gas the first few days BUT I didnt have any gas pain at all. I wonder if its just me or the dr. gave me somthing in my iv. I will have to ask when I go in Friday for my first post op visit.

Anyway, I am beginning to feel more like my old self--just a bit sore and tired yet....

Best wishes for our recent group of banders--Hope it all went A-okay!

Good luck to everyone who has recently been banded and is due to be banded in the next few days. I'm towards the end of the month so I have a way to go yet. Nerves are killing me! My plane tickets arrived today...that makes it a little more real. Take care everyone x

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
