Has anyone lost weight eatting a higher carb diet

Recommended Posts

A higher carb (good carbs) diet is fine if you're exercising a LOT! Otherwise, you just might end up sabotaging your weight loss journey. It's possible you need more Protein and make sure you're taking your vitamins….iron, B12, calcium….Also, just make sure you're eating enough!

I'm not sure what you consider high carb. My low days are 60g of carbs, and my high days are 120-140g of carbs (mostly complex carbs) with high Protein, lots of fluids. I'm also working out 5 days a week to help offset. 140g of carbs is nothing compared to what I was consuming before this journey started.

What do you define as higher carb vs. lower carb? My surgeon's guidelines call for between 30 - 60 carbs per day, which is higher than some. I have seen some have a max of 20, 30, or 40 carbs per day. I keep my carbs under 60 and am happy with my weight loss. My surgeon's team really does want people to get a minimum of 30 carbs per day to keep up energy and strength levels.

I keep my carbs under 100 and my calories around 1000 per day. I am not losing as fast as some others but I am losing steadily.

When you are that early out, you should be doing whatever your surgeon says. If you don't feel well, talk to your surgeon.

My surgeon is in Mexico. He want everyone's carbs to be about 30 a day. I feel weak and nauseous when I keep it that low. I am 167 pounds. I want to get to about 130. I am not exercising because I don't feel well enough. I am 6 weeks out. Not really sure what to do.

I am on a high Protein and low carb diet. I am 6 weeks out and I don't feel so good on this diet. Has anyone lost weight eating a higher carb diet? Or do I just suck it up and continue on this path?

Hi Momma, Im moving this great question to a non vets forum, this forum is only for Vets (over a year out from surgery) to post on, Thanks!

I know! Those little devils! I lost weight on reduced carbs, not low carbs. I try to mostly stay with low glycemic carbs though, and save the refined stuff for the very rare treat. Whole grain, eaten with Protein, I do substitute artificial sweetners in my cooking (stevia mostly) to satisfy my sweet tooth without eating refined sugars. I do watch carbs on MFP,and just try to follow their recommendations or less.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
