Appt for Lap Band Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hello all. I have an appointment with my family doctor this Monday, an I have an appt with the surgeon next Monday the 9th. I have some questions. My BMI is 36 and I have been reading that for this surgery if your BMI is between 35 & 40, you may qualify for surgery if you also have 2 problems, such as high blood pressure, which I do not have. The only problems are I have pain in my back and knees, will they consider this? I really want this surgery. Please inform me. Thanks. Tiff0815

Hi -

I had bad knees too and I didn't have high blood pressure but it does run in my family. What about your cholesterol level? Won't they consider that as a problem? I had that too. I just got banded on 3/12/07.

I hope you get approved by your insurance and you can start your new life. Keep us posted on your progress.

I was just banded and have a BMI of 35. Although I did not have high blood pressure etc..every person in my family is 100+overweight and have all the weight related diseases. My dr said I was a canidate. Also before I went I had done some research in medical journals and lapbanding as low as 32 BMI has been very succseful and is done in many countires. You should have no problem if your dr has kept up on current studies.

Hello all. I am considering lap banding and attended a recent seminar at Duke. Now waiting to see my family Dr. for his opinion. My BMI is approx. 35-38. I have back and knee problems which I think are from my weight--250 @ 5'8"-- and sleep apnea. I've tried the diets- Atkins, Jenny,Nutria-system- which worked for a while but as soon as I slowed down thbe weight came back. I am tried of this roller coaster and the c-pap machine along with eating salad everyday. Almost all of the messages I've seen posted are about those trying to loose 100 or morre pounds. I would like to loose 50 to 60. I don't know if my Dr. is going to give me his blessing or not, he has told me in the past to just cut back on the food and exercise. If anyone has advice I welcome your comments

I had knee pain and sleep apnea, and a BMI of 39. I was qualified and had surgery on 2/14. My knees no longer hurt constantly :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
