Hello everyone,

I had my surgery in Nov 2012. I was active on the forum until after surgery. 6 months after surgery my husband received orders to a new duty station and I no longer had the support of my surgeon and his staff. I tried to do it alone..... up until now. I am struggling with food choices, exercise and motivation. I can't do this alone and need support from a community that knows what I am going through. I am weighing in at 170 and have been stalled forever. I decided to become active again with the forum. I feel like a failure because I know what I am doing wrong.

You've taken the first and most important step in reaching out. I haven't had my surgery yet, but I've read others say you need to go back to the beginning and start over again. Also I've seen others recommend this link as a re-start point after a long stall: http://www.5daypouchtest.com/index.html

Good luck, you'll have to let me know if it works. I just got my date today, so as of March 18th I'll be on the losers bench with the rest of you.

First welcome back to the group and my family and I thank you and your husband for service and you for loving and supporting him!

Now down to your post - I had surgery just a few months before you and as we continue to live this life and struggle daily with our food choices it is important to remember why we had the surgery to begin with.

I could say remember everyday is a new day and get back on program, but I know that is not what I want to hear when I struggle. I want to hear I am not alone in this struggle. When you look around you and see everyone eating "normal" and you sit there and best yourself up over everything you eat can feel lonely. You are not alone. I have fallen off the wagon many times and after beating myself up for several days I remember that it is wasted energy. I had to find and remind myself what was important and why I did this. That helps me during these hard times.

So make your mind up to stop beating yourself up and take it one food choice at a time. If you are making bad choices at every meal just start slowly and replace one meal with a rny approved meal. Then make it two meals and so on.

Finally start logging your food. It shows the truth in black and white. While you document your food - log your emotions and stresses during meals. When I did that I leaned that my issue was stopping at gas stations during work. I drive all day and when I would stop to use the restroom I would buy junk! I changed that habit by keeping good Snacks in my truck. The temptation was tough and I was not always successful at resisting, but recognizing your triggers is a big part of the war!

Hello, thank you for replying to me and I want to that you for your support for the military, that mean a lot.

I want to personally thank you for your post. I stopped logging and when I ate something bad I just said "its already done might as well eat bad the whole day" That was the wrong way of thinking. I also starting drinking, I lost my mother suddenly and my day 10 months later so drinking helped me cope. I haven't had a drink in 2 weeks but its a struggle. It's great having support, I really needed to read your post and glad I have a community to help. Thanks again.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

        That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

        I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

        Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
