Just be careful with these-they are sliders for many (including me). My NUT recommends staying away from them until maintenance. :)

I drink a lot of Water during my workouts because I get so thirsty, so I don't eat solids. I start my morning by making a 1.5 serving (by scoops) of Protein powder in 20 oz. I drink about 1/2 of it over 30 minutes while I check work emails from overnight or plan my day. Then I get on the treadmill for 30-90 minutes and drink about 10 oz for every 30 minutes I'm working out. Then I finish my shake. I've had low blood sugar in the past but this routine is working for me now.

I purchased a sample pack of Quest bars from Amazon - I love them. I heat them in the microwave or bake them and it's like a cookie!

I also like Health Wise Protein bars - I get them at mybaritricpantry.com. My current favorite is the Caramel Crunch. I have a new order due to arrive tomorrow!

Thanks for all your advice! I'm not sure of I'm going to try them now or wait to maintenance. But from what I'm reading some so so good and I would be afraid they would be a trigger food for me. I might go buy one or two from all of your recommendations to try them! I'm on regular diet starting today and not sure what to eat! Lol I guess I'm going to continue what I'm doing.

I was worried about having the bars in my house as well and going overboard eating them...that has not been the case. I'd rather have a meal than a bar. I just received my order of Health Wise bars....there are 8 boxes of bars in my pantry.

You may want to try getting just a couple and having them at the ready because they really are convenient if you're day gets hectic and you need something quick. You can grab and go and it's better than going thru the drive thru. :-)

that sounds yummy, have to try it!

I am in the middle of a love affair with Quest chocolate chip cookie dough bars. I heat them for 10-15 seconds and add a dab of fat free reddi whip and I eat with a spoon really slowly. It's like a warm chocolate chip cookie. Best part of my night.

Tried the Cinnamon Roll and Cookies and Cream Quest bars over the weekend... SO AMAZING!! I am not a fan of how many actual carbs (I don't know if I believe in net carbs and I know my surgeon doesn't) they have, but I can def rationalize having one once a day or a few times a week as a treat.

I get what you're saying about not being sure about the concept of net-carbs ^^^ but any way you slice it the Quest bars are high in Fiber, which I find really helpful.

I have discovered the Life Choice brand of Protein bars sold at Walmart. They are very tasty and dense so they satisfy me for a long time. They also provide a whopping 21g of protein in 210 calories, with 8g of fat and 7g of sugar and 14g of carbs. They are on the upper limit for fats, sugars and calories for me but I use them as a meal when I am on the go. They come in Peanut Butter extreme and double chocolate flavors. They've done well for me so far.

Oh yeah, I totally agree about the fiber!! Just knowing my body I couldn't have more than a few a week. I really need to get some this weekend, I have been craving them and I know that I would be fine having that while my fiance indulges in a dessert.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
