Has anyone tried Isopure Protein Drinks?

Recommended Posts

Someone just told me that their husband (who had a bypass 10 years ago) really liked the Isopure drinks at GNC. I looked at them online, and they are pricey, but it seems like there are good flavors and they are clear, almost like colored Water. I want to try some, but I am a little gun shy after having bought a bunch of powders that are awful tasting. So I thought I'd check in with my sleeve buddies and see if anyone had gotten them, and how they taste. Oh, it's day 4 of my liquid pre-op diet, and I am down an unbelievable 11 pounds. I'm shocked by that. Is this normal?

The Black Tea is good. I also kinda like/can tolerate the grape and apple melon. Many like the coconut. They all have an aftertaste that I don't like. I like that they are clear, but I had to give em up because they have Splenda in them. Three bottles just sitting here. Oh well.

I've tried grape and punch. I had to really "work" to get them down. They have an odd taste to me. It helps to add some crystal light to them but I'd rather get my Protein from Syntrax Nectars if I want a clear.

Yes, I have tried them, and maybe I'm in the minority here, but they taste AWFUL. I know this is TMI, but to me they taste like burped-up stomach acid. I was hoping that they'd taste like Crystal Light, but not even close. The only problem is that I get sleeved tomorrow and will have to do Clear liquids for a week. Isopure is one of the few liquids I'm permitted to have, so I'm going to choke them down anyway. I hope they don't go to waste!

Don't let my experience deter you from trying them--you may end up liking the taste. If you have a Vitamin Shoppe near you, you can find individual bottles in their refrigerator case so you can just try one and see how you like it. I think they're about $3.99 or so. Good luck!

I drank them pre surgery and still drink them. I have 1/2 bottle every afternoon for a snack. I like apple/melon the best.

I have them and they are a good break from the sugary creamy shakes, but I'm not crazy about them. I've heard that if you mix it with crystal light it's better. I'm assuming that is 4 oz of crystal light to 4-8 oz of Isopure, but not positive. I've also heard that it makes pretty good popsicles and Jello.< /p>

Thank you everyone! I'm not sure what I will do, but I really appreciate your input! I'm really having a hard time choking down Protein shakes.

I really like the coconut! I cut it with Water and it gives it just a little added flavor and I get my water in too!

I drink them cut 50/50 with Water (have tried all the flavors) and when I have a stall, I drink the clear Protein Drinks for 2 days to help get over the stall.

If you buy something you don't like, you can add Tocani SF Syrup to them...even if you like them and just want a change...Wal-mart sells some flavors...I get them from World Market... the raspberry is MY favorite to add to tea and other things.

My husband even likes them...he just puts vanilla and caramel into his ice water... ;)

I tried a couple of flavors of the isorpure and I couldn't stomach them. If you can add something to them to improve the flavor it might be a good idea to try them since they are so high in Protein. I drink Atkins Protein shakes and the Premier Protein shakes and I like them pretty well, I would rather have a juicy steak , steamed veggies and a baked potato but since i know I can't I drink the shakes and follow the diet. So far so good, I'm losing.

So far I have only had the Grape Frost.. but will probably end up getting a 12 pack of each flavor over the next few months to see which one I like the best. No... they don't taste all that great...BUT they have 40 grams of Protein per bottle...and if you put them in the freezer and let them get "icy" they taste much better (to me anyway).

Syntrax nectar has some really great "fruity" flavors and its about 23 grams of Protein per scoop. I've had the fuzzy peach and I believe it was green apple or something..... those were great. I got Carribean Cooler this weekend... (no aspartame, carbs and fat) and can be mixed with Water which is great way to get protein/water in daily (nothing can substitute just pure Water of course).

You can mix 8-16 oz. of water per scoop I believe. I went to Walmart and bout a Big Bubba thermos mug. It's 32 oz. and can be used for hot or cold drinks. So I plan on mixing ICE cold water with one scoop of the nectar and mixing it in my mug and sipping on it through out the day. I think this is going to be a great for when I return to work. I digress.. but I like the Isopure drinks...since my surgery they have truly helped me keep my protein level up.

Post sugery I was getting severe diarrhea from the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury shakes. I went to the Vitamin shop and bought a big container of the Isopure vanilla powder which I mixed with Water. I would drink 4 ounces 3x per day and that got me throught the first 2-3 weeks. Then I was able to tolerate the Unjury shakes again.

Taste is relative. What one person can tolerate another can't. Just go to GNC a buy one of a couple of flavors and try them. I actually drink them quite often and there are some of the flavors I do not like. I also cut them half with Water and use them to re-hydrate when I'm at the gym.(more thirsty there & don't care about taste as much)

I have tried the grape and couldn't make it through the full bottle. To me it is very dry and left me it an after taste. I do know at GNC if you purchase something and not satisfied you can return it, but just verify before purchasing.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
